Willmkent Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Actual question in later post but I quoted it so no one had to look for it. Haha yea my autocorrect is not my friend today. Anyways. So I have always loved the JCM 800 sound but I'm really trying to stay away from buying a half stack and spending tons of money. So with that being said, I was wondering if any of you guys use blackstar amps, which one, how you like it, and how close do you think some of these amps can get to the JCM 800 thanks all! -Will Hey All, I wanted to get some ideas from the guys on board who use backstair amps but I'm not sure what the appropriate forum to post that in would be, can someone let me know? Thanks -Will
Willmkent Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 lol it always is, I should probably proof read huh?
damian Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I use FrontStair amps......They handle pedals better....I love their Spiral Tube Model 1736.......But, one can always step up to higher end models..... .... O.K.; You can ask your question on the Epi Lounge and the Gibby Lounge.......There must also be a Blackstar Amp Forum........... ( I assume you mean Blackstar Amps )...........

Willmkent Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 There is soo much going on with that jmd amp, not saying that it's bad but I really like an amp that is real straight forward and simple. Hell one channel is where I would like it to be but sometimes I might want a little more versatility
STAR CHILD Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The MESA BOOGIE TA 30 2x 12 combo is an awesome amp. it is very versital with 40 watts, 25 watt and 15 watt modes on both channels! Channel 1 is flavored after a VOX AC30 with Cut and Top boost. Channel 2 has more gain, with a Tweed mode, High 1 mode that is totally a high gain Marshall, and High 2 mode. High 2 mode is that high gain Mesa sound, great for lead! I really like the Marshall HIgh 1 mode, the lead tone is so fluid, and sustaining. The amp easily goes into clip too! Over all it's one of the best amps that I have ever owned! I got this last week at Guitar Center. Go check out the Transatlantic 30 2x12 today!!!
DiamondJig Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Check out the Marshall VM 2266C combo Plenty of great Marshall sounds and all tube with 2x12" special edt Jimi Hendrex Greenbacks.
bonzoboy Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Try to look into a JCM 800 combo with 1 or 2 12" Celestions. I have an '84 4210 which is the combo version of the 2205 head and cabinet,it has reverb and a footswitchable gain/boost channel that is just great for kicking out gobs of monster tone. You can pick them up pretty cheap these days,I only paid $550 for mine but for sweet sound it is priceless.

Willmkent Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 Try to look into a JCM 800 combo with 1 or 2 12" Celestions. Would you say that the sound from a combo and the sound from the head are similar if not the same?
bonzoboy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 The combo and the 1/2 stack do sound similar but not the same as the nature of the cabinet having a sealed back and 3 more speakers greatly affects the overall tonal response. What I sometimes do is unhook the combo speaker and run the combo amp through a 4-12 cabinet and that really makes the amp sing. You can also change the ohmage by the switch on the back to 4 ohms and run the combo speaker along with a 4-12 8 ohm cab or just a single 8 ohm cab.A sealed cab will give you more enhanced bass and mid response and an open back combo with sound more treble.Either way both amps sound unmistakeably Marshall and I used my combo for a few years even doing Hendrix covers before I got my stack.
lagerfanny Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Just found out through a contact that Marshall has decided they will not go forward with the JMD line; they are looking to dump the entire remaining inventory. Its a fantastic amp and at half what I paid for it. REALLY!!! that is shocking........................still I may just pick up a head, considering the price of these now ! Still can't believe how good these amps are
kaleb Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Marshall went up against all the traditionals like Gibson has in the past and it went over like a lead balloon. Its a great amp and the 50w heads are right at 500.00 and the 100w are 70 bucks more. Now that I know they are being discontinued I am going to grab another head just in case. Or maybe a 50w 1X12 combo and drop a V30 in it instead of the speaker it has. Y'know, one would think that Paul Gilbert and Doug Aldrich talking about them would be enough for the line to survive...... Well, if Slash played them or if he was seen in an ad with one kids would be all over it....

kaleb Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Is there that many KIDS with JOBS to by them? No, but there is many teenage Slash wannabes with parents who spoil them....

Well, if Slash played them or if he was seen in an ad with one kids would be all over it.... That's one reason why I liked blackstar so much, I found out about that company by Talking to someone in my local family owned music store. It wasn't something that was endorsed like crazy so I was able to form an opinion without thinking " well so and so's sounds good so these must be good"
