Plus Top Dan Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I've been looking around for a while now at the idea of changing some components on my 06'LP. I reckon i've narrowed my choice of pickups down to the following. Option A)Seymour Duncan SH-1 59 with nickel covers (Neck & Bridge) Option B)Gibson Burstbucker #1 Nickel cover in Neck position Gibson Burstbucker #2 Nickel cover in Bridge position Option C) Gibson classic 57 in Neck position Gibson classic 57 in Bridge position I mainly play blues and rock. I'll be changing the pots to CTS linear 500k and putting in either a 0.15 or 0.22 capacitor. Any comments on the above pickup options are gratefully received!! Thanks......
antwhi2001 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 They're all first-class pickups for classic rock / blues sounds. In my view they are pretty interchangeable, not a great difference between them. The capacitor value will make a noticeable difference, I'd consider putting a .015 on the neck and .022 on bridge. That makes the neck slightly warmer/darker in tone and increases the contrast between the pickups. It's cheap and easy to change if you don't like it.
Whitmore Willy Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I'll be changing the pots to CTS linear 500k Others here are much more qualified in the pickup department so I'll limit myself to the comment above. The 500k Linear should be fine for the volumes. (It's probably what is stock in your guitar right now) Go with 500k Audio tone pots. No tone pot is perfect, but... Linear tone pots will limit your tone roll off to between 1 and 3 on the dial. (I was probably not very clear when answering your question yesterday) http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/83137-help-with-pots-capacitators/page__view__findpost__p__1137906 Willy
bigneil Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I tried a set of Wilkinson WVC nickel covered humbuckers in my G400, and they sound great, and they were not too expensive either. they are based on a design that Seth Lover himself gave to Trevor Wilkinson. here is a great link on some PAF-alike hubucker pickups.
