What is the difference between one ES and the next? i mean, i know the 339 is smaller and the 330 has P-90s, but among the others, are they any major differences besides the number on the price tag?

Welcome.

There are many, many models in the ES (Electric Spanish) series. Go to Gibson's Product section, choose Electric Guitars and click on the ES menu item. You can read all the specs there.

Big subject....how long have you got?

There is history in the ES range...from Charlie Christian's ES 150...arguably the 'first electric guitar' in the 1930's

Right up to the 'centre block' semis more recently

Like ES 335, ES 137, ES 339 etc

And the hollow ES 330/Epi Casino favoured from the 60's on by bands like the Stones, Kinks, Jam, Beatles et al

They are all quite large...16" wide, apart from the newer smaller ES 339's

The differences are encyclopedic. The ES-330 is a thinline hollow body, a 'student' guitar that people used to upgrade the pickups, so they would play a converted ES-335. But it may be prone to signifcant feedback, as all hollow bodies.

Most thin bodies are semihollow, as are the ES-335 up to the ES-359; the ES-175 and the ES-137 are a thicker hollow body style. Semihollow bodies resist feedback due to the "log" of wood within the central cavity, and include the ES-339, ES-345, ES-347, ES-355, and ES-359.

Just get on the 'net and do your own investigation.

Rather than list all models and how they are all different. Let me list the "major" aspects that make them different. I will try to list in order of most significant to least significant (in my opinion).

1) Full hollow versus semi-hollow (with center wood block in body).

2) Pickups/electronics. e.g. single versus double coil pickups.

3) Body depth. Dimenisions bout etc...

3.5) Single cutaway versus double. Venetian etc...

4) Solid versus laminated top.

5) Neck profile

6) Fret types. Jumbo/thin etc...

7) Different wood types.

8) Wood used for fingerboard.

9) Hardware types.

10) Tuner types.

11) Knobs types.

12) Nut types.

13) Finish
