lack of availiblity

Is anyone else out there having as much trouble ordering an antique red 30/60 neck 339?

I have been waiting several months now and the supplier here has no idea when their shipment will come in. Online sites continue to repost or 'update' the suspected day of availiblity (roughly 6 weeks- 9 weeks to the future every time)...... wondering if it is going to be worth it now.

any ideas, opinions or feedback from the lucky few who do have one?

Cheers

musicians friend happily will ship to Canada but every week they update the coming soon availiblity to 10 days later..... like i said i am waiting months and months now.. I have one on order from Gibson but then it goes to the warehouse in toronto and then the store warehouse then ships out.... i could walk down the street to pick it up from the warehouse but that is if it ever arrives... One day.

That being said my 61 SG Reissue is still kicking

I posted this in another thread where you mentioned not being able to find a red 339 in Canada...

Where are you in Canada? There's a FANTASTIC Gibson Custom dealer in town and while I was there today' date=' I spotted a Sunburst 339 but I'm 99% sure they have a red one as well.[/quote']

Try long & mcquade, or guitarworks if you're near Calgary. I was in guitarworks yesterday and at the one location they had about 4-5 of them on the wall. Long&mcquade may not have them in stock, but if they don't they can probably order them in as they deal in pretty high volumes.

Hi

I too am waiting on a red 30/60 339, ordered from L&M. Was ordered in aug. 08.

I just contacted gibson usa, who directed me to gibson canada, (AKA Yorkville sound/ L&M)

Both divisions responded promptly to my question, but the only answer was to be patient.

When the order does come, it will fill all backorders, some waiting since Feb. 08!

I've considered online ordering, but would rather support my local shop, and the ppl in it's employ.

The guy in my local store who placed the order for me, who I believe is assistant manager, guessed that they'd try to fill the order before Christmas, but that was just an educated guess.

I'd take this as proof Gibson hit a home run with this model.

p.s. I was told there's something like 15 of us waiting patiently.......

I had the chance to play one about a year ago.. it was nice but caremel in colour. Hopefully the antique red plays as well. I hope that it is before Christmas but i wont hold my breath as i have been checking musician's friend and they continue to push the date back and back.

Now I know how bad it really is,trying to get one,if you guys on the other side of the water are having problems what chance have I got here in the UK,not only that, but even if you do locate one like I possibly have in Germany it may not be a 30/60 or a 59 fat neck model, read this email I got from Gibson Europe :(I've been trying to find out what neck it has but the shop is being a bit evasive, and it won't give me the serial no.)

"The problem is that it is possible that the guitar is a special dealer edition.

Since we don't have all the specifications of all the dealer editions

available, the easiest way is to ask them if it is a special dealer edition and

to measure the neck thickness !

Sorry that it is not possible for us to check all the dealer editions all

around the world, as there are many variations. At least the dealer should

know.

Hope that helps,

Stijn"

Now I know what a Limited Edition is but what's a Special Dealer Edition? anyone else heard of this term and what it means?

To give you an idea how far behind Gibson are in production, I ordered a Custom Shop 356 in Feb 08 and received it in October 08.

That was after they originally said 30-45 days.

Obviously the guitars are in demand and they are having problems keeping up supply.

I have to wonder how long that price will hold on. $1799.00 is a helluva bargain for a Custom Shop semi hollow. I would have to think it would be every bit as labor intensive as building an ES-335. Just a touch less wood.

Good luck. I love mine.

That's weird...they're a dime a dozen around here. You do know that if your local Long & McQuade doesn't have one in stock' date=' they can check the inventory at any other L&M and if it's in stock anywhere else they'll deliver it to your local L&M?[/quote']

Hi R9

When I first became interested in a 339, my local store found one in stock at another L&M, and had it brought in for me to try out. It wasn't the colour or neck I wanted, so I ordered one. As far as I know, there isn't any in stock in Canada, as they did check that.

Where are you from in ontario?

Did ya try guitarsale.com?

I just looked on their site, and although the 60's neck 339 in red doesn't have a picture, it seems they have some in stock.

I'm willing to give my local store some more time, and they've got a few hundred of my dollars too.

If you want to try guitar sale, ask for Jason or Scott. I know them both and they should be able to give you an in hand description of the guitar.

I ordered a 339 in antique red with the slim neck in Dec 07 - delivery Feb / March 08.

I was then told in May 08 that it was only available in the UK with the fat neck, but I decided to try that anyway. In July 08 I tried a Les Paul with the fat neck, didnt like it, so changed my order to an ES-335 "which would be easier to get hold of".

As of yesterday I cancelled my order completely after nearly a year, and having paid approx 66% deposit up front, I'm fed up of not only the waiting but the continual changes of story as to what is available and when it should arrive.

I've got my eye on a CS-336, second hand, if I can get my money back before someone else snaps it up.........
