rock ravolution Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 who else wants to see gibson bring back the les paul goddess
Malchik Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 No, not really. We've got too many Les Paul spin-offs as it is. I'd like to see a simpler catalog with better build quality.
SlashPerryBurst Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 The current build quality is the ****. Not really. I recently played a Les Paul traditional plus. The nut looked like a mini toblerone and even scratched my finger. I knew something was up when I asked to play it and the salesman kept showing me other ones I might like instead.
Vega1 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 The current build quality is the ****. Have very recent experience with this since I was LP shopping a couple weeks ago at GC. I played about 10-12 different LP including many various Studio models and LP Classic Customs. Quality seemed a little hit and miss, at least one felt really poorly made (a cheaper faded model) another had some serious intonation/buzzing issues (which I guess could be fixed). Of the rest there were two that felt clearly superior. Having said that I also played about 4 ESP and a couple Fenders in similar price ranges. With the exception of one of the Strats they all felt inferior to the Gibsons. So I guess what I'm saying is the build quality seemed much higher than other brands (which would be expected for the price) but varied within the Gibsons. I have never seen a Goddess model in person, only in pictures, but i do like the look of the blue ones. Although it looks like you can't see the wood grain through the finish, which I don't like as much.
Malchik Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 The current build quality is ****. There I fixed that for you.
pippy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I've played Flight959's and it was really nice. I'm not 100% sold on the see-through bobbins nor the satin-finish rear and I much prefer a four-knob tone/vol system - but it had a beautifully silky ebony board and played like butter. There's even something appealing about the simplicity of it - with the McCarthy-style compensated bridge-come-tailpiece; two knobs; no p/g and such. A bit back-to-basics. Almost like a simplified R4 without the C-S price tag. I especially liked the look of the black one.... Whether the Les Paul range needs to be expanded even further is a different matter but I'd say there's much more of an argument for having the Goddess in the range than half-a-dozen other models which are currently on offer. P.
pippy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I like purple.... Like this, you mean? Ooohhhh......... Go on then. I'll take it! P.
DestructorsKillMusic1982 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I played a used blue Vixen in a GC once (similar to the Goddess but with less frills, sort of like a LP Special version of it) and really liked it, real simple guitar that reminded me of "The Paul", sounded good through a Fender Twin, I'd buy one of those if I see one for the right price again someday.
Danner Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I just got a brand new LPCC, ebony, and the fit and finish are absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't be happier. I do think there are too many LP variants. It is downright confusing.
Malchik Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Some people are never happy... At a couple grand, its their job to satisfy me with their product. A Les Paul with flaws should be rare.
