RS1976 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 considering the purchase of a BucketHead Les Paul Model studio. I hear the neck is larger, and so is the body. has anyone played one, and in terms of the difference in neck size, is the neck only longer, or is it also wider in terms of width from Low E to the High E. I'm a fan of the pickup selection as well, and the kill switch is... interesting, but not really a deal breaker. but who here has owned one and what do you have to say about it? would it be much different to install a kill switch in a Les Paul Studio and swap out the pickups? curious.. may the tone be with you!
SlashPerryBurst Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 would it be much different to install a kill switch in a Les Paul Studio and swap out the pickups? There was a guy on Youtube who had bought a similar kill switch unit and modded it to his Les Paul copy. I don't think it would be too difficult to do. A local guitar tech could even do it... At a cost of course. Doesnt the buckethead lp have 2 kill switches? Indeed it does.
Searcy Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I'm really wanting to try out that longer scale and bigger body.
Riffster Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 McMurray I think has one, The only one I have seen in person was at the Gibson showcase in Memphis but the guitar was sold and behind a rope with a big do-no-touch sign, bummer, I wanted to check it out, It was the original model, not the studio. Wider nut, longer scale, additional frets and larger body. Not for me because I am a hack but in my opinion one of the more interesting models Gibson has released in recent times.

Searcy Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Hows the back? Yours that is.... It was fine till I bought the Chet.
Disembodied Loaf Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 It was fine till I bought the Chet. I have it, it's great! It is quite big. Neck is a bit longer, but I don't think any wider. The neck profile isn't close to that of a classical guitar, I'll tell you that. I got some thick strings, .12-.54 and now it sounds great tuned down to B. I'm 5'11 and it doesn't feel too big for me. I got used to the size fast, but after days of playing nothing but my nylon string, the thing feels huge! This is the best guitar I've played. Well, my 2nd most expensive one was only $500, so there's likely a gap in quality. It's actually hard to compare the 2, because an ES-175, being an archtop, isn't suited for overdrive. And a les paul doesn't provide that jazz tone. But, it's a great quality instrument. Definitely beats my friend's Gibson Les Paul Studio.
Searcy Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Assuming you're talking about a Gibson Chet and not a Gretsch the neck is a good bit wider at the nut than a Les Paul but you're right, it's not as wide as a Classical. The size doesn't bother me but the weights does sometimes. I'm actually thinking of taking mine down from 10's to 9's.
