Vega1
The "Remember the 90's" thread got me wondering if anyone else watched the Metal Evolution series on VH1. Was about 12 episodes covering the history of metal from a number of influential genres and stand-points. Was pretty interesting, I bet even if your not that interested in metal specifically just musical influences throughout the 50s-60s-70s-80s.... The reason the other thread reminded me is the totally subjective nature of whats good and whats not, whats metal and whats not, who influenced who, etc. There were a few highlights in which the guy narrating/writing it got some interesting reactions from some of the musicians. Like when he tried to get Steve Harris to admit Iron Maiden was influenced somewhat by punk (he wouldn't) and hearing some of the 90's guys flatly insist they were not metal and would not be labeled as such. Anybody else watch this?

Anybody else watch this? yes we did! but I'am not a head banger/heavy metal type!now I will say something that sounds contradictoryI don't like the typical metal stereotype and I do'nt like to stereotype either so its more of those typical actions/personalities that turn me off! and some of the mind numbing tunes! but if you must call black sabbath metal ok, that was'nt what it was in the begining we never heard of it back then! \:D/ there was a few points of interest in the show too soooo! :-" :-"

Yeah, some of the episodes were good though from a nostalgic perspective even if you knew all the bands. The one on 80's hair bands was good because you get to see them all today, many of them lament their involvements since it ruined their chances of being taken seriously. Yet some of those guys have better skills than many, many bands of today. Yea, there were a couple of threads on this series, I am a metal guy but I am "stuck" with early metal, thrash metal by far may favorite(which is the real first version of full fledged metal as a movement) and early power metal. I felt dirty but I sat through the Grunge, New (Nu) Metal and Shock Metal episodes. The rest of the stuff I already knew but I liked the format of the show.
