EuroAussie
Hmm, interesting. I once read Townsend saying he chose his particular J-200 because it sounded really flat and dead, and that was just the tone he wanted for that melodic rhythm playing of his. If this guitar is like his, hmm, not sure if Id really want such a re-creation. btw: dont like that particular moustache bridge at all ... prefer the standard moustache. Harmonics101
Isn't Wildwood the place where they had all those different bursts for the Hummingbirds and stuff ? at $4599 , you sure hope that J200 wouldn't go thump. But then again, maybe Pete was describing the classic Gibson thump that the Martin afficianados just can't understand. Harmonics101
BigKahune
. Come on . . . It's not that hard to find a dead/flat sounding Gibson. Let's count the threads were a member has mentioned how many Gibson guitars they went through before finding a "right" sounding purchase candidate. These guitars are just as variable as any other and that bridge was standard in the 60s. . B) .
Harmonics101
BigKahune, I'd believe my ears before I'd believe anyone in a forum. Could be that lots of Gibson acoustics are duds, but heck if I've bought any. Sure, I've played Gibsons that aren't to my liking but then I don't buy them. I only buy the ones that I like so nothing to ever complain about on these forums. Sort of feel sorry for those guys that just can't seem to find that Gibson that's right for 'em. Heck, at least or hopefully they ain't unlucky in love Harmonics101
62burst
Nice guitar. The bridge might not look like most 200's that are currently out there, but it's nicely shaped, and with the inlay, might be much less likely to ever have the dreaded moustache crack. Ok for this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_hw1xcfylI btw: There are a handful of beautiful SJ-200's on Wildwood's offerings listing the scale length as 24.75". As I've recently started a discussion w/ Gibson Custom Shop regarding the possibility of a 12-fret SJ-200 built as a short scale(?!), seeing the Pete Townshend guitar's spec at Wildwood really got my attention. Spoke w/ a staff member there... changes to the scale-length (->25.5")specs soon to be edited.
zombywoof
For the price of the Wildwood guitar I could buy an original 1968 J-200.
