guys ,

I thought I'd share that. alot of Martin fanatics say gibson has been copying Martin for along time ...

so this I guess is kind of the other way around.

JC

Interesting.....

Even the Martin logo echoes the look of a gibby.

If theres one thing I learnt over the years working in creative industries is dont ever let the CEO do the job of a creative or the aritstic deparment ... let him just run the buiness and let specialists make the guitars.

.

I remember when that one came out it got slammed pretty hard here - "clown burst" among other comments, including those on the Gibson ripped script headstock logo.

Ugh! Don't care much for either the 'burst or the logo.

There something funny about the exchange where he talks about insisting on creating 'his' idea of a model.

"I need to have my own model !" followed by "Unfortunately I'm a shameless copier".

Imagine a band member comin' up saying "I wanna do my own tune now, , really write my own unique contribution, , , it's gotta be mine and mine alone, my mark, , , , but I'm a big copycat". That would get dose of laughs, wouldn't it. . .

Anyway-

I have a variation – wonder if this guy stood behind it, don't think so. It's a custom from 2005 of which only 7 was made. This came to me via Ireland and I never saw it anywhere else. It has hog back'n'sides and the neck is 25,4.

You could say it represents both some 45 and the Martin sound. However there's no direct Gibson flavor at all. It's definitely a Nazareth guitar. The traditional stamp is seen on the long mid-back brace and the asymmetrical label says :

Custom –

Dreadnought Style 18

Sloped Shouldered

At some point I found it too polite and well-behaved, and for a period it was in garage as other strings called for attention. Then brought it forward some weeks ago and immediately saw why I fell for it at first touch back when we met. It's a soft sounder – very rounded and mellow, still distinct and precise with rich bass and projection. A dream when I want that hog thing without the presence of the significant G-voice (can happen some times folks).

Besides - together with my Bird - this slope takes the trophy for neck and action. It's so easy on hands'n'fingers. All in all the creature has rang among my top herd. Sublime 6-string.

Good-looking guitar, but I'm not a fan of black pickguards.

Imagine you'ld like some exploding colors Nick - only kiddin' and you know it. . .

To me a black guard is just one of the classics.

Thought of changing the tuners to matt-metal ovals - it would be fitting for the somewhat puritan look, I think.

Might happen when the moon stands right.

I played one at the Martin factory last year when they were introduced. They are a very balanced sounding guitar, great feel but in no way does it sound like a Gibson. A previous incarnation of this model, I believe the CEO-4 was a mahogany slope shoulder design that very much sounds like a Gibson.

The burst is even more horrendous in person. They should have just made it in black.
