Hydra26
That's a great collection you got there, love them all. Is that the original trem on the explorer on the right? I'll bet every guitar in your collection has a story, would love to hear them :) Well they've got stories but they're pretty boring stories. The v was my first gibby. The trem on the explorer is factory installed. It's from the 07 guitar of the week run. I think week 43? They sold out fairly quickly. The tuning stability and action are not awesome with it, but it's fun, probably the best sounding of the bunch with all that mahogany and the 57 classics. Based on how it sounded I bought a second burst explorer specifically to put 57's in which I then used for the majority of gigs and live performances I did. The Moderne was a preorder. I might not have had the first one built, but based on searches at the time, when I started this thread, I seemed to be the first consumer to post pics of it on the internet after it was released. Not that it makes my playing any better but I thought that was kind of neat. I'm intrigued by the variety of finishes on your moderne clones. Are these still being made? I've never tried a firebird, but I love the mini's in my LP deluxe. The rest, well, I'm not as active musically or socially as I used to be and I'm not a great player so the stories are rather boring. I just like pointy guitars going back to my first guitar being a steinberger clone and learning most of my skills on a low grade bc rich warlock for years. I have my les pauls and stuff. They're great, even my go to guitars for some things, but I will always have a soft spot for outlandish pointy, tacky looking guitars.
truetone6
? I've never tried a firebird, but I love the mini's in my LP deluxe. The Firebird minis are very different from the Les Paul mini's that were on the LP Deluxe I owned. The ones on my 2006 Firebird VII are superhot ceramic mini HBs. Hydra26
Not sure if I'd like minis with ceramic magnets. I love my deluxe though. That's a ncie moderne. I wish I had the scratch to get one of those older ones :)

Not that it makes my playing any better but I thought that was kind of neat. I bought a Moderne in Amber that was stamped 2012, but returned it as I didn't like the neck shape (flat). I then bought a black one from Dave's Guitars that is stamped 2011 that has a round neck. Which one is yours, Hydra 26? 2011 or 2012? I'm wondering if the first batch, the 2011 ones, had the rounder neck shape and the newer ones have the flattened shape.
truetone6
That's a nice moderne. I wish I had the scratch to get one of those older ones :) Thanks! my Moderne is a replica from Wronas House Of Violins. I got it used at a local store. Hydra26
wadeaminute, mine's a 2012. Keep in mind, these necks are not CNC routed to their final shape. Each one is going to feel a little different. One feeling a little flatter than another might just be the guy pushed a little harder when rough sanding it :) Can't rightly describe my neck, it's very subjective. But it's not what I would call flat. My buddy has a LP Classic that I would describe as thin, and very flat.

So there must have been a batch that were at least started in 2011, even if they were not released until 2012. The three 2012-stamped amber ones that I've played all had a similar flat neck profile. My black one feels somewhere between a 1959 and 1960 Les Paul shape. Not fat, but round. I like it. And I like the black. The newer amber ones are dark brown. The only thing I changed was to put a blank truss rod cover on, as I didn't like the "Moderne" one that came with it. Mine smells like vanilla. Was going to put knob pointers on it, but it came with them from the factory.

Afraid of commitment? Here is a picture with my Moderne, my Billy Bo White Penguin, a 1970 Mustang and a 1971 Mustang Bass, and my Mini Rectifier. Hydra26
I leave my plastic on as well. It's not a fear of commitment, it's just me trying to take care of my stuff and that little layer of plastic helps keep those stray pick swipes off the pickguard and keep the guitar looking newer. a lot of fine scratches will tend to make it look dull from a distance. Actually ended up putting clear contact film over a couple where I finally peeled the plastic off from bubbling and edge curling. Yeah, I'm one of those. The anti-relic crowd. Damage'll happen and wear'll happen, and I won't cry too much when it does, but I do what I can to keep it in good shape. Just like I wouldn't take a classic car and intentionally spray the wheel wells and rocker panels with salt water.

wadeaminute
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa That Billy Bo is superb! Thanks! It was my dream guitar, and now I own it. The first one opened of the first 14 made in 2007. In 2006, I was in NYC and tried a Billy Bo (red) and a White Penguin and couldn't make up my mind. Two years later I discovered this very limited run. The store-owner that commissioned them kept this one for himself, and wouldn't even sell it to Jack White when he wanted one (he eventually got a different one). After the third run of these, the original owner did not feel that it was exclusive enough anymore and I was able to convince him to sell it to me. Paul Simon has one too. I think that the Moderne and the Billy Bo go together well. I would love to have a Cardinal Red Moderne.
mosquito3
Nice story man! I'm looking for a Billy Bo since a long time. Hope to get one of those one day (as well as a modern). I think that the Moderne and the Billy Bo go together well. Sure! Ask the Reverend Gibbons
wadeaminute
Yes, I am a Billy Gibbons fan. I even have a Seymour Duncan BG1400 tele pickup in one of my Squier Super-Sonics. Getting back to the Moderne, I am shocked that these are not more popular. It is exactly what I was hoping for for the past three years or so - a Moderne with the split headstock. Henky
Today, after yet another year of saving, i got my second gibby moderne. I really love the new reissue run modernes, and as they come with two outstanding finishes, i just had to have them both.
