What is the most you paid for a guitar?

The most I ever paid for a guitar is the current SG I own which was $800.00 bucks. I got lucky a couple of times and got a Les Paul cutom for $475.00 and an Explorer for $400.00 which I sold for $800.00 to buy my current SG. Of couse these were used and I happened to be in the right place at the right time but the SG had never been set up and still had the plastic on the pick guard and he never played it either and it looked brand new. I have never bought a new Gibson but will do so in the future and I know I will be spending way more than I ever have on one but not ready to fork that over yet. Tim

In the late '80s or early '90s (I don't remember exactly when I got it), I paid $1200 for a Rick 360/12.

The '50s Tribute I have now is the second most I've ever spent at $850.

The most expensive guitar that I've bought is my '65 Model John Lennon Casino that was one of the first 50 made she was about $2,850 taxes in.The next most expensive one was my 50th Ann. Strat, that was $1,700 taxes in.Some of my vintage guitars are worth more than that but that's not what I paid for them.

Picking up a new ES-335 1959 Fat neck that's worth €3,000 although I'm paying €2,600 for it as the one I wanted is out of the stock and the dealer is desperate to sell me any Guitar, even if it means knocking €400 off it.

Over 20 years ago, I bought a '74 Les Paul Custom for $1000. At the time, I thought it was pretty expensive since almost 10 years previously, I bought a '68 Les Paul Custom for $400.

Things were different back then.

The most expensive guitar I own now is my 2011 Les Paul '50's Tribute, which was well under $800.

In '98, shortly after the passing of my Dad, I had this built in his honor by a local luthier. The cost, as I recall, was around $3200 or so. I remember the inlay work cost more than most of my other guitars. I have since passed this axe, "The Colonel" along to my Son. He and his Sons play it now. [thumbup]

Almost embarrassed to say but in 2010 I paid just shy of $6,300 after taxes for my R0.

Now I'm waiting for everyone to tell me that I paid too much or that they got a much better deal.

Don't care. It is what it is.

For what its worth, my ES-339 came in at around $2,300 taxes in.

The best deal was my Suhr Strat at $1,500. A couple of months old and retailed new for close to double that after taxes.

3000. Played it for a couple of months and then sold it for the same amount, which for me means I made a profit out of it (I played with an expensive toy 'til I was bored of it and didn't cost me a dime).

Next would be 2000, and it's the best guitar ever built, feels like it was built for me... wait, it was!:D

Next? 1700-1500 and sold them for more when I got bored by them.

Right now I don't think I'd spend more than 1500 on a guitar from any brand. And I'd probably try not to get over 1000.

Around $2,500 for my 335 flame top last year. Before that I'd never paid more than $700 for a guitar in the US. I did pay 450 pounds for a new Rickenbacker 4001 in 1977. Adjusted for currency and inflation, that might be more the the 335?
