fortyearspickn
Congrats on the new Gibby. Lots of suggestions on similar, previous threads. I've used broken up pieces of clay flower pots. They absorb excess moisture when it's humid and they expel it when it is dry out. I keep it in a sock in the little compartment most cases have. I lived in NY, CT and FL with great success using this method. In TX I soak them in H20 every now and then when we are having a 'drought'. I also had a problem with the wet sponge in the tube concept. G'luck.
guitarstrummer
You can make one from a plastic travel soap container. Drill several holes in it and cut a sponge to fit inside. Wet the sponge, just so that it's not dripping wet. Place it under your headstock.
retrorod
I find that spitting into the soundhole twice a month(on the full moon and new moon so I can remember) adds the right amount of moisture to keep my acoustics crack-free! It works! Haven't had a crack yet... RRod
suburude63
The sponge method is the cheapest and best. The rubber hose (Dampits) are not bad Ive used them for years and they work just fine. Just dont get them too wet. Squeeze them out. I use a brand now called "Oasis" Its a sound hole devise thats very very good! My humidity runs 20-25% in the winter here in Eastern Wa. State (high Desert) Never had a crack yet!! suburude
John Lee Walker
retrorod, you must be from down South:) But, you left out the part that you have to use Redman, just a peench betweenxt yer cheek and gum, for crack prevention. Bonds real good on the braces, too...and makes yer gitar smell purdy.
retrorod
South? Yes, indeed! I think I will begin research on the 'tonal enhancement properties' of years of build-up of Redman spit as applies to the acoustic guitar (Gibson of course)! ....
