Markini
Mean while back at the ranch, I was on the PRS forum yesterday and was in the "other guitar besides PRS section" and one topic was what do you recommend for a new acoustic guitar. The Op had money and could afford highend guitars. There were 46 posts and not one recommended or even mentioned Gibsons. The most recommended were Taylors, Martins and Breedloves. Now those are all fine guitar makers and I have nothing negative to say about them. But not one mention of a Gibson, I thought I was in the twilight zone. Anyway to the original poster I recommended a Hummingbird or a J-45. My theory, my thoughts only is that there is still bad blood between PRS and Gibson after Gibson sued them over the LP design, which PRS won. But this doesn't explain why the posters (46 posts mine was # 47) never even mentioned any Gibson model. I never realized how biased the PRS posters are to Gibsons. Surely I would find one in support of a Gibson. Nada... To be fair here, I own 4 Gibsons, 3 Epis and 3 PRS guitars. They are all fine guitars.. Maybe it was fluke? pfox14
I would imagine there's a lot of bias towards Gibson on a PRS site, even though PRS doesn't make acoustic guitars.
MissouriPicker
I don't know if I've ever seen a PRS guitar. Are they builders, distributors?......Didn't know they had a forum. Regarding the lack of "Gibson" comments----I don't really care. If I was much younger, maybe I'd get worked-up over it, but with the years comes maturity. I've pretty-much outgrown letting Gibson bashing or lack of respect upset me. When I find it, I usually just go on or I'll make some kind of logical comment and show some pity for the bashers. I find it difficult to explain something to people who are ignorant and close-minded. Why beat our heads against a wall when they're the ones with the problem? Just went to the PRS site. Looks like they're kind of similar to SAGA. As someone earlier stated: they don't make guitars. Their guitars sure look pretty. Probably too pretty for me. Spot
There were 46 posts and not one recommended or even mentioned Gibsons. The most recommended were Taylors, ..no surprises then Markini. It doesn't surprise me that boring PRS owners like boring acoustic guitars....
Motherofpearl
Prs does make acoustic guitars and they are very expensive I've never laid hands on one so couldn't tell you what they are like but I have seen them prs Angelica or something like that

Yes...PRS (Paul Reed Smith) is a very successful and popular brand of electric guitars. High end with legions of devoted fans. PRS has also dabbled in some high end acoustic guitars but I don't think their acoustic line ever really took off...
Markini
Well guys you know from my posts that I like Gibsons, and I gotta say PRS does make some fine electric guitars that play and sound good, though I have never played an acoustic PRS, for that matter never even see a picture of one. Just my preferences for acoustics over the last 38 years have been Gibsons, especially Birds and 45s
jrplefty
You know Markini, as a PRS owner, I didn't know that PRS had a forum. I guess I should have known one would exist, I might start browsing it and see what is going on in that world. I'm not sure that I can offer any insight into why they wouldn't get at least one mention in any respectable forum, and I wouldn't say a former lawsuit spilling over into the feelings of the general public, even if there are still resentments between the management teams. Fox, PRS started making acoustics I think 4 years ago or so. They are all bigger bodied guitars if I remember right. The demos I've seen Paul do with them they are very bright and project very well. I think they were designed to compete with Taylor tonally. I really wish they weren't as expensive so local guitar stores would be willing to stock one or two that I could put my hands and develop some first hand thoughts and knowledge on them. From firsthand experience their electrics are all very well made, and I would expect nothing less from their acoustics.
Guitaricky
I have a split personality with both Gibson and PRS in my collection. In fairness to the PRS guys (a lot of them are here too)there are 47 posts on that topic but they are not unique posts i.e. the guy that posed the question has 14 of the 47 posts himself and there are many others with over 5 posts each. Also noticed that a number of them list gibsons in their collection (signature). I think most people who love guitars, well...... love guitars. Now whether the board rooms of Gibson and PRS see eye to eye that's a different matter And of course you could recommend a Gibson to their forum and see what kind of response you get

Yeah i saw a some Gibsons sigs but no recommendations for a Gibson acoustic. I did make my recommendations though.
BigKahune
.... I own 4 Gibsons, 3 Epis and 3 PRS guitars. ..... WHAT?!?!? I can't believe it - you own 3 PRS guitars!? . Just kidding. The members here seem to me to be reasonably balanced regarding brand opinions. While I'm a member of other brand forums, I spend the largest majority (by far) of my time on the Gibson forums, and according to the numbers in my profile, I'm most active in the Acoustic sub-forum. IMO, 46 comments without mention of Gibson is no fluke. .

ParlourMan
I've always thought they looked like varnished cakes.... I'm not a fan of PRS guitars at all, in looks or sounds, I hate the headstocks, the control configs too. I don't think I've even liked the same music as typical PRS fans on other forums in most cases either. I'm thrilled they're happy, a case of 'each to their own' but I'd never consider owning one. I can see why some people like certain design features etc, but they do absolutely nothing for me.

brannon67
Well, I have been on alot of different forums over the years, and yes, people tend to be bias and down right crazy when it comes to the brands of guitars they play. Dont get me wrong, I love Gibson, and I play Gibson, but I also have a Martin I play as well, but I have just one Martin and 4 Gibson, so you do the math. I dont have any bad things to say about Taylor, Breedlove, PRS, Fender, and other brands. If I like them, I like them, if I dont, I dont. People tend to get really crazy and stupid talking trash about other brands on some of these forums. I dont get it. To each his own I guess, but thats not what I do. baimo
I have have gone through a few Gibson electrics and love my J-45 acoustic. I also have a PRS CU24 and a PRS custom rosewood Angelus. The Angelus is a wonderful acoustic. Each acoustic has its own sound. I like my Angelus very much. The wood selection by PRS is second to none. They brought a famous acoustic luthier over to their shop and he heads the acoustic production group. PRS now produces a very high end acoustic with typical PRS quality. I have noticed that on most of the forums, they are prejudiced against certain brands. Stupid. My J45 is a great guitar and value for the money

merseybeat1963
PRS.... Good man..beautifull designs...very nicely made but , Pretty much I'd sum it up in this nut shell..listen to Santana before he played one , then after. If I was a dictator I would forbid his use of the damn guitar. I owned one..a yellow all mahogony one (a proper set neck early one )..I played & played that twerpy sounding thing and it never got any better. I recommended a flamed green maple primo one to my friend cause he played rythmn..looked great on him as a singer and it was a very great price..but it had that same twerpy tone quality. Of course that was 20+ years ago. When I brought it to the studio it was "..oh no not that guitar again..where's the Jr.? "
