I tolerate imperfections but that is somethign else it seems Jeremy Morton is a very good Gbison CS rep who often lurks here, Id get in touch with him first to see what can be done. ritchie69
how long after you bought it, did you notice this repair? I guess you've already tried to give it back to the seller...

EuroAussie
If you knew this for over 5 years why didnt you bring this up with Gibson at the time, or even still, buy the guitar in the first place ? The UK distributor made you aware of it at the time purchase if I understand it correctly ? I bought the guitar in 2000 and played it for 5 years without noticing but then had an injury which meant it stood for 5 years until I decided to sell it, Gibson acoustics are played by very knowledgeable people and after the third potential buyer said the same thing thats when i started to think somethings wrong, by that time Rossetti had lost the contract and the seller was not interested, now the guitar wont stay in tune and the varnish over the repair has started to crack basically its worthless ornament. fortyearspickn
toymotor, First off - Please don't let christo's knee jerk put you off. We have had a rash of newbies showing up here in the past few weeks with horrific stories directly impugning Gibson Accoustic's. Some of them appeared to be insincere provokers :). I can perfectly understand how, with your second guitar, a well repaired crack or default would go un-noticed, even if you hadn't been forced to closet your Dove for 5 years. I think that it made sense to pose your question here to try to find out if there are others with the same experience. Of course, you have to understand - most who hang out here are actually Happy with their Gibsons. Those who have, or believe they have had, a bad experience - will probably be over on the Acoustic Guitar Forum. I'm not sure what your objective here is, though. Is it to find enough folks with 'factory seconds' they bought/thought were not, or to vent and find sympathy? If the former, I'm pretty sure Gibson does Not ship 'seconds', althought they did 50+ years ago I believe. If the latter - I feel your pain. I'd suggest you go to your equivalent of the 'better business bureau' and file a complaint against your retailer, even if he isn't a Gibson dealer anymore. Maybe this is why! G'luck. EuroAussie
I understand the OP's objective of finding out whether selling 2nds as 1st is a common Gibson practice. Id be curious also fankly, although I doubt you will get the answwer here. My suggestion would be to start playing your Dove again and enjoy the Gibson rather than sell it, you might rediscover the magic that it seems yo have lost towards it.
