Gibson Blues King Strings

Hi, does anyone know what strings and what gauge does the Gibson Blues King comes with from the factory?

Thanks

They come with lights (12-53 I think) 80/20 .... Masterbilt (again I think). Actually, from the posts here, all Gibsons must come from the factory with the same strings. Gibson must have gotten a real deal on a boxcar load of these strings. I use light D'Addario EXP 12-53 on my BK ... they work well ... like them better than 80/20. Best thing to do is try lots of different strings over time and see what works best for your guitar and playing style.

The Gibson site has string info re: the Hummingbird ... "Gibson’s Light Gauge phosphor-bronze acoustic strings, sizes .011-.052, are installed at the factory"

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/Square-Shoulder/Gibson-Acoustic/Hummingbird/Hardware.aspx

FWIW.....

My HB TV was shipped with fairly light strings, prob .011-.052. They felt quite 'slinky'. I couldn't tell, at the time, if they were 80/20 or PB's as the colour seemed to lie somewhere in between, s'pose they could have been PB's.

I swapped 'em out pretty quick though....currently I am diggin' both JP PB lights and D'addario lights on the HB .....

They both sound different, they both sound great.

The d'addario's are soft and sweet and a dream to play, they feel like they have less tension than the JP's even though the gauges are equal. They dont last as long though, IMO, as the JP's.

The JP's are louder.... rich harmonic content and very responsive to light touch very nice sounding strings even a few weeks old.

Something isn't right here.. i don't understand how you say that your guitars might have shipped with 80/20 strings, on Gibson's site, there are only two types of acoustic guitar strings and they're both Phosphor Bronze.

*Laugh* That's because we spend too much time on this site listening to each other. But that's what I've been told by my very savey salesman and several people here. Having said that, if you ask 5 guitar players an opinion on ANYTHING you will get 6 different answers and a couple of "it depends". Just look as any of the long threads here and you'll see.

Anyone have a definitive answer for moonlander?

This has come up a couple of times,

Jeremy Morton has replied that all acoustics ship with 12's PB's,

and the closest you can buy to the Gibson factory are D'Addario EJ16 lights

What do you mean by "and the closest you can buy to the Gibson factory are D'Addario EJ16 lights"?

The 12's PB's it comes with aren't the Gibson Masterbuilt strings that i can by in the guitar shop?

no

I don't think it's accurate.. Look at these two pages from Gibson's website, one is the L-00 Pro and one is the Hummingbird:

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/Small-Body/Gibson-Acoustic/L-00-Pro/Specs.aspx

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/Square-Shoulder/Gibson-Acoustic/Hummingbird/Hardware.aspx

According to those, their both strung with .011" - .052" Gibson Light gauge (which is the same gauge range as Gibson Masterbuilt Premium Ultra Light).

One thing I've learnt here..and has been quite obvious from recent posts.. don't expect the Gibson website to give correct info [flapper]

This topic has been thoroughly debated and I'm just going by what has been stated previous.

Jeremy Morton works in Bozeman... he chipped in not so long ago that ALL acoustics ship with 12's

there is numerous threads here explaining that Gibson used to make strings but now dont D'addario now supply Gibson.. I'm no expert in strings.. or anything else for that matter.. just tryin to help [thumbup]

Hi, does anyone know what strings and what gauge does the Gibson Blues King comes with from the factory?

Thanks

I bought a Blues King a couple of weeks back. I liked the strings (although a lot lighter than I'm used to... Martin 80/20 mediums on a J-200) but changed them a couple of days ago as I have a gig coming up.

I put some Martin lights on it and they seemed much heavier than the strings it shipped with. I know Martin lights use a 54 rather than a 53, but the others too... it just didn't play or sound like it did before.

Having read through this thread, I went out and bought some d'addario custom lights (11-52) 80/15 and it's back to how it was. Pretty sure the strings that came with mine were bronze and not phosphor.

The guitar seems to loose it sustain with heavier strings and when you're playing without finger picks it's nice to be able to snap 'em. The only change I made was to add a heavier 1st string for when I play slide. Will probably add a heavier 2nd string too, but the rest of them are staying.

So yeah, they come with 11-52's, pretty sure bronze and by the sound of it d'addarios.

Hope that helps.
