Restoring an early 1960's Gibson Dog Ear P-90

Recommended Posts

So Ken writes me and asks if I can help him out. He has an early 60's Les Paul Special that he has owned for many years. After many mods he is trying to put it back on original condition. He had the old original Dog Ear P-90 but over the years it had been stuck in a few other guitars and in the process had its ears clipped off and its lead wire removed. The bobbin has also been shaved down as some point. I guess so it would fit in a cover of some sort.

Ken was able to find the original lead and loaded it in a box with the pickup sent it to my shop to see what I could do for it.

I removed the old base plate and replaced it with one from AllParts.

Then I checked the coil to see if it was still alive.
