Riffster
^^^you are 100% right, but just in case it is not a joke everybody "feels" like they have to clarify things. A meaningless thread will get 100 responses easily. That seems to be the way guitar forums work, start a dumb thread and watch it take off. Post about TVs and watch the thread get to 4 pages. Look at MLP, you see a lot of people browsing the different guitar and gear related sections but go to the Backstage and there is triple the number of folks looking to get into a disagreement...I mean conversation. If this was a real life group conversation this thread would have granted a trip to get a beer and perhaps start talking to somebody else at the party. charlie brown
Well, no matter the original subject, of a thread, we can't stay on topic, more than a page (maybe 2) anyway. The main topic is just a lure, or "reason" if you like, to get things going. LOL But, at least we are "talking," having a conversation. I'll bet you can't go that long, without a texting, or cell phone interruption, and complete distraction, or having the person you're trying to have a conversation with, leaving. Lengthy "face to face" conversations, seem to be going the way of the horse and buggy. No one "has time," (unless, of course, they belong to a guitar, or other type forum.) The Beatles, or The Beatles vs. Anyone else, is Always a fun/interesting topic, just FOR these diverse opinions, emotional, or otherwise. ShredAstaire
All i'm saying is that we should all stop complaining about the trolls if you are all going to respond and keep the conversations going. I like em too....i don't complain about trolls. :) P.S. Nice one Scott!
swleary
Nice to see everyone inputting on this topic. Good to have a good debate. Beatles will be remembered for their impact on the music and their contribution to the world. Metallica will be remembered for their input to the metal world. Opened a lot of doors IMO. martinh
I agree, the Beatles is ******* pretentious hipster music. They'll be forgotten in a couple years. Richard Rowe was right ....guitar groups are on the way out.

J.R.M.30!
Probably everyone has said that Metallica has lasted longer than the Beatles. Although, both in my opinion are on the downside of Rock and Roll. The golden age was in the 1950's with Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Chuck Berry etc. etc. The Beatles had an arsenal of melodies and added many styles to the Pop genre but they weren't a true R&R band. Metallica is probably the most commercial metal band of all time but that's it. When I think of R&R I think of the two I mentioned and Janis Joplin who everybody aspires to sound like (Axl Rose of Guns 'N' Roses etc. etc.). jaxson50
I have not read many of the post so this may be a repeat, I call bullsheets, do a public poll and ask people to identify songs by the Beatles and songs by Metallica, the Beatles would win hands down. Lets see, Yesterday, Here Comes The Sun, just to name two...I can't even think of a Metallica song...How many hits did they have?

Taylor Swift has done more for Pop, Country and Rock (some might even say Rap) than all those old, worn out groups rolled into one. Yeah!

The Beatles started as a rock n roll band in Hamburg and the Cavern in Liverpool. What they became after Epstein put them in suits is another topic. They influenced everything that came after. Pop, Folk, RnB Rock, Metal, Jazz, Country. Ask Ozzy, Garth, Petty, Wonder, Bieber and Benson. It's not even debatable now can we go back to talkin about TVs. J.R.M.30!
The Beatles are not the end all be all of the music world but they did contribute alot to Pop music. Alot of the credit goes to them being managed properly, with Brian Epstein and later George Martin. The Beatles were also marketed well and was exposed early in their careers to the public. I have even more respect for individuals like Berry, Elvis, Richard and Lewis. This is because the spotlight shined directly on them and not their backing band. They were of course very much talented too!
BigKahune
. Charles Hardin Holley. The single most influential creative force in early rock and roll. February 3, 1959 . . . . . the day the music died. .

bonzoboy
Roll Over Beethoven,Lawdy Miss Clawdy,Twist and Shout,I'm Down,Revolution,Helter Skelter,Kansas City,Good Golly Miss Molly,I Saw Her Standing There,I Wanna Be Your Man,Money,Long Tall Sally,Slow Down,Matchbox,Rock And Roll Music etc. aren't Rock & Roll if you go by some people's discription of the Beatles and saying that they're not a rock and roll band.In their Hamburg days they were playing 8-10 sets of nothing but rock & roll every day and well into every night. When they started off the musical tsunami that was to become the British Invasion they were universally hailed as a rock and roll band.Granted later on they diversified their music by experimenting with other genres but they never lost sight of their rock and roll roots.Basically they wanted to put in a little bit of everything so that they could appeal to a broader cross-section of the record uying public. BTW,Note to Big Kahune: The Beatles purposely took their name as a nod Buddy Holly's band The Crickets as they too acknowledged Buddy as being among their greatest influences and one of the true fathers of rock & roll and that's why they did several covers of his songs.Cheers. As did the Ramones from the Beatles. The name Ramone stems from a story that Paul McCartney of the The Beatles would check into hotels under the pseudonym "Paul Ramon" while touring and used that name in the Silver Beatles. bonzoboy
Thanks for that CM,that's one bit of music trivia that I didn't know,I did know about Paul taking the Ramone "surname" however but not the Ramones tie in.
cookieman15061
And everyone in rock knows the Beatles invented the solid body guitar. It was originally called the La Paul after the cute one Paul McCartney. This design was then stolen my one Lester Paul who renamed it "The Ringo" but after checking with his lawyers chose to call it the Les Paul. Here's Pauly showing Lester his new invention.
