jesse.toland
Does anyone know where I can get information on what finishes were availible in the artist orignial series gibson did in the mid 80's? I'm trying to verify if an '84 "underdog" explorer is factory or aftermarket. Thanks!
Morten M
Pictures please. I have all the Gibson ads from the that period in GuitarPlayer. Is it one of those with what looks like almost random globs of paint?

Morten M
Thank goodness no. Its the same as my avatar but here's a bigger image. I've never seen anything like that finish advertised in GuitarPlayer from '82 - '87. I'd say the price tag is at least $500 too much.
e/2 Explorer
Honestly, it looks like someone did that as a matter of taste. Possibly a punk band thing? The artists series guitars are on eBay frequently, predominately striped in various colors. If it was a custom shop, it would be easily verified with your serial number I know someone that has a Hello Kitty Explorer, hilarious but cool. I mean it is the correct enamel pink w/ the Kitty and squinted eyes deal. Guess what? It's still a Gibson Explorer regardless the clothes she's wearing. Keep it and enjoy it... or strip and redo her
