string tension different on my gibsons

I have 3 Gibsons,a les paul studio,a sg special faded and a sg standard.

The lp studio and the sg faded feel near the same ,but the sg standard feels to me like its little more tension on the strings, fingers get sore easier playing it,it seems to take more effort to bend notes. Now ,this I am assuming must be due to something in the way they are set up?So from what is described above, what is most likely different set up on the sg standard to make it feel like the string tension is more and its little harder to bend notes, etc?Would it be from the height of the bridge, the truss rod setting,or what that would be making this guitar with the same neck be feeling like it has more string tension?

Are the strings the same brand?

No.I have D'Addarios 9's on my lp and sg faded and ernie ball 10's on the sg standard.

The thing is tho is that up until a few days ago I had D'Addario 9's on the sg standard also, and at that time too,it still had more string tension. It looks like the tailpiece is lower on the sg standard. As soon as I find a way to adjust it I am going to try that.So far I can turn the screw on the tailpiece on the side of the bass strings, but the treble side screw doesn;t cooperate, can't get it to turn.Raising the tailpiece is what I am trying to do next to see if it helps

Are the strings the same brand?

How high up is the tailpiece on your angus sig guitar?

Is it all the way down or high up?

Is the string tension hard on your fingers and hard to do bends or easy?

I saw ac/dc live at Illinois on OCt 30th.BEst show I've seen in a coons age

Anyway the strings are very soft and it's very easy to bend. I use Ernie Ball 0.09 on the Angus and Gibson's 0.10 on the LP and they both feel perfect.

Put new strings and try more screwing and fixing. I'm sure you'll find the solution. +:-@/

I'm going on March to Milan for my second AC/DC kickass-live! Long live Angus Young!

The closer the tailpiece is to the body of the guitar, the more tense string action will be.

It's pretty simple if you think about it...when it is closer to the body, it requires more string length which in turn increases tension. The more level the tailpiece is with the Tune-O-Matic (shortening the distance, with less string out there) the easier it is going to to be on the fingers. This comes at a price though, as some claim there is less sustain the farther the bridge is from the body.

Personally, I've never noticed these sustain changes and I've done quite a bit of adjusting in order to get my guitars to "feel" right. It's not an exact science and if it really bothers you, it'll require some effort which may or may not be worth it to you. Don't forget to intonate along the way though!

This thread may help you. Check out CKLedZeppelin's post about how Joe Bonamassa feels about top wrapping his strings. I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon. http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=7339[/quote']
