SlashPerryBurst
Hi everyone, I'm wondering what the odds of Gibson USA accepting the following custom order... Assuming they actually do custom orders. I know that the custom shop will. I'm looking for a non chambered/weight relieved traditional with a 60s neck in this finish. Minus the dings of course. I've spent many years (8) trying to find a Les Paul that fits the requirements. It's particularly hard as this guitar was 32 years old at the time, so naturally had faded into the very beautiful finish seen above. However, I was playing a MIJ tokai that nearly fit the bill. Other than a fatter neck and the "wrong" name on the headstock, it was what I've been looking for for many years now.
pfox14
I am sure the custom shop can do whatever you want, but it may costs a lot of $$$
SlashPerryBurst
I am sure the custom shop can do whatever you want, but it may costs a lot of $$$ Well that's where it becomes a problem. The things I'm asking for aren't exactly difficult. As a matter of fact, it will even save them time and money as they won't need to chamber/weight relieve it. I don't mind paying a premium, but that premium shouldn't be extortionate.
dem00n
Look up local guitar builders in your area...be cheaper.

They built guitars in big runs, but Gibson custom should be able to do what you dream for. Good luck !
stein
Bump..I am sure CS has a real answer, as opposed to a guess. One thing though: regarding the weight relief/non weight relief. You DO realize, for the weight relieved guitars if they weren't, they would be EXTREMELY heavy, as in 70's boat anchor heavy. The weight relief deal makes them more like a 50's or 60's weight...still heavy. Just opinion, but I think it is meant to be and sound like a more reasonable weight, as opposed to being super heavy. I think they are more like a 'good' LP than one that is in the super heavy category. Not trying to change YOUR opinion, but you have to realize, if you want a medium-like weight without holes, that means a different stash of mahogany than what the USA models and most others use. That means Custom Shop regardless.
SlashPerryBurst
Yeah, I am aware of how heavy this guitar would be. Around a few pounds heavier than my other LP and around the same weight as a goldtop with p90's that I had.
btoth76
Hello! If You can overcome the weight-relieving issue, check out the new 2012 Standard in Desertburst (or Fireball). Cheers... Bence

T Bone
Well neither of those are the finishes I'm looking for. In that case (and in my opinion) your best bet (to avoid the Custom Shop price) would be to find one that fills the bill for everything except finish, then pay a Luthier (or perhaps Gibson?) to refinish it to your desired look. Perhaps a phone call to Gibson Customer Service (toll free and open 24/7 I think) would be the best way to answer your questions with certainty. Nick Beach
I know a guy in Canada who builds a couple guitars a year in his spare time. He just did his first LP for his personal collection, but would probably make another for you (especially if you want to copy a Slash LP). Heres the one he recently finished... Here's the full album with build pics and everything http://s410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/shorty855/Les%20Paul%20Build%202011/
Angellus
Well neither of those are the finishes I'm looking for. Slash's guitar pictured in your first post was Tobacco burst. I love that finish as far as i know customs are a flat rate £3,000 and only performed by the custom shop. I'm a lefty so finding the right paul often gets me thinking about getting a custom order. I'm thinking of going down the route of buying a nice guitar that meets the specs then having a luthier refinish it. I know a guy in Canada who builds a couple guitars a year in his spare time. He just did his first LP for his personal collection, but would probably make another for you (especially if you want to copy a Slash LP). Heres the one he recently finished... Here's the full album with build pics and everything I have a very high opinion of the luthiers out there who hand build truly amazing guitars from scratch. Normally, I'd consider that route, but this is a guitar that I've desired since the early 90's. Long before I started playing. Unfortunately, this one has to be a Gibson. I've dreamed of owning one like this for a long time. If this was any other guitar, I'd probably jump at the chance of a high quality one made to order. Slash's guitar pictured in your first post was Tobacco burst. I love that finish as far as i know customs are a flat rate £3,000 and only performed by the custom shop. I'm a lefty so finding the right paul often gets me thinking about getting a custom order. I love Tobacco Burst too. The guitar in question was 32-33 years old at the time so had faded rather nicely. I've been led to believe that nowadays, Gibson use different Lacquers that prevent a guitar fading. Hence, why I won't buy a new tobacco burst LP. They are far too dark in comparison to the Slash/Perry 59 burst for my liking. Normally, I like it when Guitars age nicely, but when I eventually acquire one in this finish, I want it to stay that way.
