enchong Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Hi Guys, Just got my LP Custom 3 weeks ago and I am looking for the best strap for it as it is quite heavy.... I got a planet wave 4 inch strap but last night the strap slipped off!! its good I was holding the guitar quite well or else would have been disaster. I need suggestions on a really nice strap and if the planet waves strap is ok should I get a lock(dunlop?) to lock the strap so as to avoid any accidents in the future or any other brand.... Appreciate any help Cheers
AXE® Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Bloody hell mate !!! Schallers . 8 out of 10 pro's will agree. The other 2 are bollocks.
Thundergod Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 +1 AXE I use any strap that I like but always with Schallers.
the_HEWC Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 +1 on schallers Put those on my LP-Studio about five years ago, now I have them on all my guitars! A clever solution that don't require much modification on your guitar, just keep the old strap-buttons so you can restore it later if you for any reason would change your mind.
enchong Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 Thanks Guys, I think these are strap locks...what about straps?
RichCI Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Strap locks are the answer you're looking for if the problem is the strap slipping off. I don't care what strap it is, who made it or what it costs, I don't trust any of them without strap locks. +1 for Shallers As for which strap, there are tons of them out there in various price ranges; you can buy a cheap nylon one for $10 or pay upwards of $200 for a custom strap. Personally, I like plain leather with the underside being suede so it doesn't slide around.
Les Paul Fanatic Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Schaller Strap Locks. However if your looking for a new strap, it just depends on how much you're looking to spend. If money is no issue then Red Monkey all the way, all leather, all the time.
Tim Plains Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I use something like this. http://www.zzounds.com/item--DNP7007SI Just put on and twist. If you're gigging or change guitars often, they may not be the greatest option...but an option, none the less. There's no way I'm putting toothpicks in any of my guitars. Straps...I use Levi's suede straps.
RichCI Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 No toothpicks are needed; I've never had a problem installing strap locks on any of my guitars, and that ranges from Gibsons to Fenders, to Ibanezes to a Guild and even a Reverend. The screws that come with Shallers have always fit just fine but, in being a little paranoid, I always try to use the screw that were in the original buttons as long as the screw's head fits inside the strap lock button.
Old Deadhead Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I really like the Onori suede straps. They are comfortable, reasonably priced, and dont slip. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/S3BRN/
enchong Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 I saw in one of the sites the FRANKLIN STRAPS.... anyone has used this strap before? they look cool but wouldn't know if they are comfortable to use... aside from the Red Monkeys any other brands wit the same quality?
RichCI Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 If you want to spend a little more for quality, Levi's, Moody, AF Designs, and last but not least Long Horn Leathers (bought from them; the guy who makes the straps is VERY cool and will make whatever you want).
daveinspain Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Planet waves make some very nice comfortable straps with built in strap locks that work great... I have several of them and love them I bought this strap on ebay and its extremely comfortable and soft leather.... AAA+
3th3r Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Best-quality strap I've ever used: http://www.eldoradostraps.com/new-products.htm
daveinspain Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Very nice straps.... if you are in a country western band....
TrueTone911 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 enchong....I have several of the original Franklin 3" wide straps and I use them all with Schallers. They are soft, comfortable and affordable. like this one
nikko18 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 being 16 i dont really mind how heavy the guitar is or how comfortable my strap is but i really like these dimarzio straps that came on my LP. the have parts that you just screw into the guitar and have clips on them, then the strap just clips on. these are them. i gues they actually have more then just a two inch one now. http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/straps/
