-Orange Tiny Terror

-Krank Rev Jr

-Vox AC15

-Blackheart little giant (is that how that thingy is called?)

Best advice I can give you is go and try some... listen to your ears ont what the guy trying to make a sale says.

Are you playing in a context where you will notice the difference between a tube amp and a solid state amp? That must be taken into consideration, because tube amps require a little more care than solid state amps and are heavier, so you will sacrifice portability and reliaility for tone (prety good trade if you ask me).

Thundergod is suggesting a Vox AC15 and I'll go a step further and suggest the Custom Classic AC15 if you can swing that. It has a Master volume which helps to make peace with others in the house...neighbourhood for that matter. Remember that 15 Tube watts of class A can be really loud. Have you checked out the Traynors? Some of them are British voiced and their prices haven't been hiked an extra 25% like almost everything else in Canada now.

your current amp has many voices and effects that you wont get with a pure tube amp. Do you want the amp to be loud and clean, dirty or some where in between. A few things can effect a tube amps sound. Class A or AB power section, master volume control, gain controls, boost switches and tone controls. You can get preamp tube distortion with a gain control, power tube distortion by pushing the volume to max. What you looking for ?

Check out the Peavey Windsor--class A tube, voiced for that Marshally sound, takes any number of tubes and has the same power attenuator you're used to on the back of your valvetronix (which is really a great amp itself) Goes on the low end of your price range and you may be able to try it out at your local guitar superstore. Oh yeah and this amp goes to 12!(seriously it does)

I agree with DiamondJig, what you have is VERY versatile and loud! I own the AD50VT and get some real nice tones and crunch tube sounds. Now this is a biased opinion, but if you work with what you got, guitar, effects etc. you can find your sound. BUT, if you REALLY want a full blown tube amp, then go for it. LOL

Hey there ircanadian , I'm using a marshall JCM2000 TSL122 combo that i bought used at the local GC . Picked it up for $ 800 . The teeny bopper that sold it did not know what it was that he was selling . I swapped out the junk tubes someone had in it and reset the bias . Easy fixes anyone can do . My neighbors hate me !!!! Go to the super-duper guitar shop and look for the right out of school manager guy and talk him up ! Good luck .

Welcome ir.

Since you're in Canada you may want to check out the Traynor line. They're canadian made tube amps that are simply fantastic amps for the money, and they build them like tanks. In fact, Traynors come with their famous "even if you break it" warranty.

The two main models are the YCV-40 and the YCV-50. They both have two foot-switchable channels (plus a boost switch for leads), effects loop, reverb, and a speaker output to add another cabinet. The difference between the two is that the 40 uses 6L6 power tubes (american style amp) and the 50 uses EL34 power tubes (british style amp).

Here are the specs with some sound samples (although the samples sound like a$$, so you may want to try them out in person). In your neck of the woods, Teddy's Records is a Traynor dealer.

New, they sell in the $700 range, but I see them used quite often in the $400 to $500 range (all prices in canadian dollars).

hey if you wanted a great amp in an even lower pricerange try out a kustom tube 12a. i have one and it freaking kicks ***. in mine and a few others opinion it sounds better then the vintage marshall in my dads studio. and it's small enough to transport easily i bring it to school with me on the buss everyday. they're around 140 dollars new but look on craigslist i got mine really cheap there in perfect condition. if you get a chance definately play one.

Funny...or not so funny thing is my Vox Valvetronix 50 blew a pcb so it may be permanently disabled if you know what I mean. I returned the '65 Deluxe Reverb because my ears have been ringing for 3 days now, and I took out another Traynor on rent. Its the YCV20WR model. 15 Watts Class "A" circuit, two channels with a boost. I'm not sure I like the lead channel that much but the clean channel can be set up for some nice creamy overdrive tones. It uses a pair EL84's and the driver is a Celestion Greenback. I like this very little amp. Its light and sounds kick a**! I haven't heard it with the Les Paul because I had to bring it in for fret dressing. That's another $156.00 but I know when it gets back it will be will be ready for a winter of wood shedding.

If there is a Traynor dealer up there, give the Traynors a try, you might find what you're looking for at price of about $730 for the 50watt blue one. I forget what the model number is but it runs on EL34's and uses a Celestion Vintage 30.
