rybass Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 So yeah, it's coming by FedEx today. HA I'm a bit excited! Long story short: I made a deal with my girl that I would sell all my extraneous gear and knock it down to one great guitar and one great amp for a minimum of five years to get my debt paid off. I settled on a limited LP and was lucky enough to come across one for sale on MLP. Well for the past few weeks I have been wheeling and dealing but sales are slow; economy, gas, whatever. Well I gave up on the MLP sale b/c the guy was trying to sell his to get an R9 and I didn't want to hold him up any longer. Sad day when I told him to go ahead to the next buyer. Turns out my girl (knowing how excited I was) found one on ebay, won it and said she would make up the difference from what I had and I could pay her back when everything else sells. So yeah she's pretty awesome. Oh yeah it's a GOW #33 Les Paul Classic Antique mahogany top. Kind of a dark burst with a satin finish. I fell for them when I saw one hanging in the dreaded GC a few months back. I didn't fancy myself an LP guy but turns out it's going to be my number one for at least 5 years. I blame you guys for the GAS. Pics to come probably tomorrow or Thursday when I can tear myself away.
daveinspain Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Congrats and your Girlfriend is a keeper... !!!
MikeRom Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I blame you guys for the GAS. You're welcome! Congrat's in advance on the new ax... You outta marry that girl, sounds like a keeper to me !
RichCI Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Congrats! I think your girlfriend deserves at least dinner at a nice restaurant.
elvendio Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Congrats on the guitar and the girl! You're One lucky dude.
Les Paul Fanatic Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Lucky b@%tard, got a new guitar and a girlfriend who'll help pay for it, hook, line and sinker. Get her the "ring"
rybass Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 To let you know I hate FedEx. They refused to leave my LP at my apartments office yesterday. I had to leave a written and signed letter on my door that it was ok and call the local hub and speak with a manager or whatever and tell her I was ok with it also. HA 11:46am it has be dropped off at my appt office and I'm picking it up this evening! I apologize if I'm acting like a child; I'm a pretty immature 30yro especially when new toys arrive.
KennyF Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I apologize if I'm acting like a child; I'm a pretty immature 30yro especially when new toys arrive. Hey bro' date= No need to apologize. It's okay to be excited. Dude, you've got a new LP waiting for you.
Les Paul Fanatic Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Hey better to have to go and pick it up as opposed to it getting left on your doorstep while you're away from the house like mine did. Hell who knows how long mine was sitting outside, and I didn't even notice it was there till 4 in the afternoon y-day which kinda pissed me off since I used to work for UPS.
thejay Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Oh yeah it's a GOW #33 Les Paul Classic Antique mahogany top. quote] Thats awesome man! Have to show some pics - I'd be interested in that guitar myself!
jmac Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 glad you finally got it! nothing like playing a new LP...cherish the moment and post some pics!
Homz Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 You often here people talk about the cost of a new LP. As the father of a young violinist I can tell you that LP is reasonably priced when compared to a Italian hand made fiddle. And the bad part about it is you can't tell one violin from the next. Very minor variations in color from the $45K model to the $200 ones. Yes i am sure they sound different but they lack the character of a guitar, any guitar. I guess tiger stripes and nitro finish don't mean much to the fiddle folk.
jmac Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 to that point, how long have violin's been around and they're still so pricy? yup, the prices are pretty crazy especially when compared to guitars.
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 +1 jmac. 59 LPs are considered the "holy grail" of guitars and they go for $300-500K. A Stradivarius will run you about $3-5 mill. (last time I checked, anyway.) Congrats on the new axe, Rybass, and make sure you post lots of pics!
Homz Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 "holy grail" of guitars and they go for $300-500K. And we know who owns and still plays that one guitar that would actually go for $500k.
dpgumby62 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Grats on the new LP rybass. A top guitar and a top woman by the sounds of it, you are truly blessed. Btw, on the subject of the "holy grail", if any of you are cashed up, and I mean REALLY cashed up, Jacksons Rare Guitars here in Sydney have a 59 LP Standard for sale, on their website, and in their Ebay store. Going for A$600k. About US$420k at current exchange rates. They also have a 57 Goldtop for A$315k. Web link attached, if any are interested............... if only to drool and dream. Jacksons Rare Guitars a link to their eBay page (this has the price, only listed as POA on their own website Jacksons Rare Guitars on eBay

rocketman Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 To let you know I hate FedEx. They refused to leave my LP at my apartments office yesterday. I apologize if I'm acting like a child; I'm a pretty immature 30yro especially when new toys arrive. :) Great story on how you got your guitar. Congrats!! Oh, and marry your girlfriend. Trust me I found me a woman just like this and she still let's me be a child after 12 years of marriage! Now if you'll excuse me I need to put up about 10,000 holiday lights on my house (thinking about putting a Les Paul light display on my roof...).
