old rock
My new LP is a Standard. I was just curious about the model code. The code is LPS5+BCGH1. LPS is Les Paul Standard, 5 is a 50's neck. + is unknown. BC is black cherry GH is Gold Hardware 1 is unknown. The headstock only has Les Paul written on it and the truss cover is blank. I am curious about a Standard being this color with gold hardware but can't seem to find these guitar features in any of the Gibson Web info. Gibson CS
My Les Paul says... LP6+HSNH1 LP= Les Paul Standard. 6 = 60's slim taper neck HS = Heritage Cherry NH = Nickle Hardware 1?...hmmmm good question.
Tim Plains
Guys, where do you see this? All I see is my serial number. Stupid question, I know...but remember, I'm new.
Gibson CS
Tim A... Its on the check list card that came in the case. The person who does the final check before the guitar leaves the factory checks off on the exterior finish, and playability. At the bottom of the card is the model number... in my case... LPG+HSNH1 underneath that, is the guitars serial number.
Tim Plains
Deepblue, you just reminded me. I bought my LP Standard in November. The checklist wasn't in the case and they said to call back in a week to get it. I never called back until today - Unfortunately, they don't have it. I also checked my other guitars and my SG Standard's checklist does not have the correct serial number...hmmm? Guess I'm SOL on this one. I doubt calling Gibson would do anything for me? OKlunchbox
I believe that information is also handwritten underneath the pickups if you cared to go looking for it. -Dylan
c3lew
I was told that the + means a premium plus top. That's what the CS rep at Gibson told me.

[/quote'] maybe the "1" @ the end is means its not a factory second? does a factory second les paul end withthe number 2? im just guessing, i have no idea
Gibson CS
My Les Paul model number has a "+"....but its not a premium plus. Unless it slipped through the cracks at the factory. I must say, the top of my Standard is suuuuure purdy! :)/
old rock
Thanks for the insight guys. My other LP is a Custom and everything was clearly defined. On this guitar, the salesman at the Guitar Center said it's just a pretty LP Standard and it was sold as such. I'm ok with a pretty Standard but all I wanted was a Standard. I'm certainly not an expert on LPs but I just don't remember Standards with Black Cherry finish and Gold hardware. I looked on the Internet for Gibson info and just got more confused. That's when I pulled out the checklist and looked to see if the color was Black Cherry or maybe Wine Red. And according to the checklist it is Black Cherry. I emailed Gibon a couple of times (second time being yesterday) and I'm waiting for their take on the matter. Bottom line, it looks and feels and sounds like a Standard and that's what I wanted. I just don't understand the Color or Gold hardware. Oh well, back to breaking it in and thanks again.
c3lew
Correction. The + sign state that it's a plus top. All new LP since the redesign in 2002 (?) are plus tops.
