GuitarJohn
Do the 60's vintage SG's have the same neck heavy, neck dive problem as the new models; Requiring a suede and/or large strap to play standing up? I have never played an SG from the 60's? Thanks, JohnnyB
strat-o-steve
Since the vintage Gibsons from the late sixties through the seventies had larger headstocks, I would assume they were even more prone to neck dive :) My SG isn't bad at all though. It's really a non-issue. Of course, each piece of wood is different, so each neck will have a different density and weight. Play a few and see what feels good and sounds good to you. stein
New ones built like the 'vintage' ones should have the same "issues". That's why we call them "re-issues".
Stubee
I've got a '65 SG Special and with any decent strap it is a non-issue. With a cheap nylon web strap any guitar in the world will 'neck dive', including a 3# flattop.
