Crispy
I recently purchased a new Les Paul Deluxe. The strap pegs are small and not real "secure". I'm thinking about buying a strap with locking pegs. Any recommendations? Thx! Crispy
Kolera
Do a search for "straplocks". There's a million threads on the subject. Schaller and Dunlop are most popular.

Rogie
I`ve been using the original Strap-Loc system for 32 yrs now, without a problem or having a guitar hit the floor. For the small investment,....they are worth every penny.
Crispy
Thanks Rogie. I'm gonna invest in one.
CowboyBillyBob1
Schaller Locks work great and are not ugly. Used them for over 20 years.
RedSkwirrell
Grolsch bottle stops. My 2010 Limited came supplied with Dunlops, I'd still rather use rubber and do. Have 'em on all my guitars. Only incident I ever had was when I took one off and forgot to put it back on. I think they look better too.
Lazerface
Along the lines of the Grolsch seals, i just went out and bought rubber washers from the hardware store.

I'm thinking about buying a strap with locking pegs. Any recommendations? Thx! Crispy I use Schallers on most of my guitars. For guitars where the front strap peg is down at the neck joint (SG, 335), I use Marvels, because otherwise the Schaller knob pokes my gut. On guitars that are too light for mounting strap lock hardware (Epi Casino, Danelectro 63, J. Turser "Beatle" bass), I use the rubber washers from the hardware store. Yeah, I need to have at least three different strap setups, but it's worth it. Besides, I can never have TOO many straps!
rocketman
Schallers are failproof. They use a pull button which are much safer than others. I use them on every guitar.

Hello, I have used Dunlops in the past and beyond the trial of getting the strap onto the lock, and not keeping the locking detentes lubricated causing a fall, I tried the Schaller. Maybe I am doing something wrong as it was put on by a luthier. But the top bout lock is daily coming loose. Not falling off loose, but rotating the lock alignment loose. I am considering using some locktite on it. Anyone with similar probs? Dual intent in post, to indicate some failures of the popular brands and to see if there is a fix to the schaller issue! Thanks for any response! Glenn

Thanks for any response! Glenn Glenn, if the lock is rotating in the strap hole, you need to crank the nut down really tight. Position the lock properly in the strap, stick a large standard screwdriver blade into the "U" shaped receptacle (To hold the lock in position), and crank the nut down tight with a socket wrench. Use loctite if you want to, but if it's tightened enough you won't need it. Be sure to periodically check both the nut and the pin attached to the guitar for rotation. If the pin keeps loosening, remove the pin & screw, dip small toothpick slivers in wood glue (not a lot, just enough to get them wet) and shove them in the hole. Screw the strap pin back in and let it set overnight.

Now one problem may be the strap material is a spongy type artificial product and not leather. I didn't think that I'd need to keep and eye on the strap pins. Thanks for the heads up! kidblast
you could always do what one of the bass players I worked with yeas ago did... Get a staple gun, and just nail that sucker to the body.... (Kidding!) Schaler's are not fail proof, plus with a strap with thick material, it's often times very hard to pull the release pin to get that strap lock to open enough to go on and off. I've got a lot of these - not my favs! Dunlops don't have that problem, and they've never come undone on me, (some of the schalers, have.. good thing I still have LIGHTING fast reflexes!! then again, maybe my old bass playah was right about the staple gun idea??? Nice to have good reflexes, for sure kidblast. The only time I had a Dunlop fail was because I didn't keep it's detente balls properly lubricated. Sorry but this just sounds wrong and I feel like digging a bigger hole. Anyway they didn't lock and I wasn't fast enough, and bent a tuner. Could have been a lot worse. So I tried the schallers. Maybe the blue locktite will help. Take care! Glenn
ChanMan
I've been trying these out with great success so far. I've been a Schaller guy for years, but almost lost the LP to them. My cat like reflexes are all that saved it from hitting the floor. Works on the standard strap pegs and with any guitar strap: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=tshc&cp=7&gs_id=8&xhr=t&q=strap+locks&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS328US328&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&ion=1&biw=1327&bih=576&wrapid=tljp1336440227625012&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=5740818748972540563&sa=X&ei=pXWoT52oPMrDgQf_98S9AQ&sqi=2&ved=0CMcBEPMCMAI#

They are IMHO very good! The schallers though, I bought a new strap and I want to return it but the locking washer mangled it so bad I might not be able to. I guess I can always switch back to the Dunlops if these keep coming loose. Take care! Glenn
kidblast
not sure if anyone still following. got a new strap / and locks for my SG Standard (which just came yesterday). Thought I'd go with dunlops. I think they made a change and you have to use the screws they provide now. This would require taking a drill the guitar. Not gonna do that, will see if I can return them for Schalers, I have to see their mounting hardware too though. It's a thick strap, and schalers don't usually work well on them. The new strap is pretty solid for now, but once the button holes loosen up from use.
Elmer
I bought an ES175 and there is only 1 strap peg...and I dare not to make a lil'hole int that body to screw a 2nd strap peg in...a little off topic I know...but I just don't dare to drill a hole in my guitar. The 175 should be pretty easy, there's a lot of wood on that heel. but I hear ya,, the idea of drilling or re-drilling the hole for the front button (right at the heel of the SG) wasn't giving me the warm and fuzzies. by the way, I returned the Dunlops for Schalers, the screws are the same size as the stock screws. So, that was easy.
