I'm gonna audition for a new band tonight..

I got a call last Friday from a drummer that I used to play with (and sometimes still do on acoustic gigs). He said his current band is looking for a second guitar player and was I interested. I was offered a spot in the same band about a year ago but had too much going on at the time. Now i don't have much happening, so I said i would accept. They play a variety of almost any type of music in the rock/pop realm. Oldies, classic rock, Motown, modern, alternative, blues...you name it. Plus they already have gigs lined up throughout the year, so I don't have to worry about that end of it.

Only thing is, I have to audition with the rest of the band. As far as he's concerned, I'm in, but to be fair he says he wants to make sure everyone else is cool with me joining. Heck, I've already played half their songs in other bands I've played with, and the others shouldn't take me too long to bone up on.

Wish me luck. [blush]

Thanks all.

I'm pretty sure I'm a shoe-in just on the drummers word. But, if for some reason, I blow it, no skin off my back. I still have some gigs on the books with other groups.

Now my luck, I'll start with this new band and my current bands will suddenly get offered a bunch gigs and I'll end up with scheduling conflicts. #-o

No guys. I'm just waiting to hear back officially. [smile]

I thought it went well and my drummer friend said I should be in. But I still haven't gotten a call back. They had a few other people lined up to come in, and I think they were going to just give them a try too. Hopefully I'll know for sure tomorrow.

Still haven't officially heard anything <_< . Although I don't take it personally, and I know that if it were totally up to the drummer, I would have been in by now. I almost feel like saying "never mind" since they seem to be having such a hard time deciding. :-k

I do have a little pride you know... [rolleyes]

Don't get upset about it taking time - remember most bands are a loose democracy at best and so it takes forever to get everyone to agree sometimes especially on something as important as a new guitarist! Hell it used to take us hours to decide what to eat after a gig, the conversations usually started before we even got there and it sure started before the first note was played. And the stupid part was that not matter what was talked about or what everyone decided we always went to the same damn Waffle House after almost every gig because of several major reason's. First it was open all night which can be rare in some places, and more importantly they didn't panic or get freaked out when a whole group of us would come in and most importantly the food was good, hot and cheap which always seemed to win over any other argument.

Things happen for a reason they'll either get their **** together and select you or they'll maybe try somebody else that is somebody else's friend or worse relative and you'll find either find something else, or if it's what usually happens their first choice will fail miserable and then if your classy and cool right now, then they'll call you after that happens.

Never burn bridges especially over pride, and especially if you don't know the decision yet.

thanks Retro. I really would never burn bridges and have said there's no hard feeling if they go with someone else. I've just never experienced this waiting period before. It helped that almost every band I've been in, began as just a group of friends jamming, then turned into a "real" band. O:)

I'm slightly surprised your friend hasn't been in touch, though, even if it's just to say 'we're giving an audition to another guy later this week' or something.

I've still got my fingers crossed for you........

Musicians are flakes mostly, and often sketchy when it comes to personal relationships. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, just keep hustling out there. Like your pal told you, it's not his call whether you get the gig so don't take it personal if they pick somebody with a nicer van or something. God knows it's happened to me beaucoup times.
