modoc_333
i have a MC Southern Jumbo. i was wondering if anyone makes a firestripe 'guard for it? i want to keep the big guard. i sort of dig it, and i would be worried that the finish might look funny underneath after removing the old one. also, if someone does make a firestripe for it, how do i remove the old one safely? modoc_333
that looks pretty decent. now, how do i safely get the old one off?
jefleppard
using a blow dryer, gently pry the corner up with your fingernail. it should come off easily once the glue heats up and loosens. just remember, dont force it. then use lighter fluid (sounds wierd but its true - personally, i've used mineral spirits) and a cloth to remove the old glue. twilson send out a warning about putting the new one on properly the first time if your new guard is of the peel-n-stick variety. apparently, they adhere right away and don't let go so be sure to hit the right spot. modoc_333
i've put plenty of guards on, so i'm used to that end. i have heard the dryer mentioned. it scares me though. i'm afraid of heating the guitar too much (and too quickly), especially just part of the top. can i not cause problems with the finish, the top warping, or melting the glue for the bracing? Hoss
I bought a sheet of this material- Greven Tor-Tis - and copied a guard from the one that was on my guitar- http://www.ellisguitars.com.au/ellis_guitars_pickguard.html Came out great. The Hairdryer technique works fine- the guard will start to lift and easily pull away.
