Epiphone FT1

I would have posted on Epiphone board, but I think there are more experienced collectors here.

For a 'vintage' epiphone, it appears someone went to a whole lot of trouble to razor off the bottom of the sound hole label. While the logo looks correct, it appears to be much too pristine compared to the rest of the guitar. To me the three sided border tells me there is a bit of the label missing.

Any thoughts?

First-off I must say I know absolutely nothing about vintage Epi acoustics.

The strange thing about the bottom of the label is that if it had been sliced off recently I would expect there to be a difference in the colour of the wood where the 'missing' part had been but there's no difference that I can see.

Could be that the label was cut like that originally?

Perhaps a post in the acoustic section might be useful as there are many well-informed folk there.

Good Point.

There does appear to be some glue splotches above the label and possibly below as well.

This doesn't look like any Epiphone label I've ever seen. But, I am not an expert.

Curious.

What about the Martin/Harmony style headstock?

I replied over at the other part of the forum but just in case - that is the same Epi FT-1 that was put up last year by Heritage Auction. So you might want to go and take a look at their site and see what informatoion they had on the guitar.
