Songwriter DLX question

1st time Gibson Acoustic owner here and it feels like home already! Quick question for you nice folks, what size strings does Gibson put on their guitars? I have always played lights on my 000-16 Martin which I traded in for my new Gibson. My sore fingers tell me they are mediums. If I put lights on the Songwriter, am I going to surrender the amazing depth in bass?

Thanks all,

Chop

Hi Chop and welcome.

If you read thye other thread by wiley you'll get our drift re lights and mediums or 10s , 12s and 13s as we say in England.

My J45 now strung with 12s on it's way to try 13s.

My SWD 12 now strunng with 10s where I think it will stay.

When a dozy countryman of yours names cunkhead wakes up, he will tell you of his experiences of strings on his SWD.

I believe Bozeman string with Gibson Masterbilt mediums as stock.

I hate to disagree with anyone who is on a heavy dose of prescription pain medication but Gibson ships with Masterbuilt Lights on their guitars.

This is very true, however meds are a nice improvement.

I've never advocated the use of heavy drugs and alcohol, but they sure helped me. (Hunter S. Thompson, paraphrased.)

If Johnt lived in Texas, he'd definitely be a space cowboy. Roping ghosts on the edge of the universe!

woooo. i'm up. sorry. one too many scot-tails. not to worry - all under doctor's orders. well, he says he's a phd. he runs the dry cleaner across the street which is also my local gibson dealer. now, about that dlx. the advice given to me, after posting this exact question on this very forum several months ago, was that the songwriter would sound great with 13's (17gauge in england, where one can apparently aquire a law, economics or doctorate degree for a pint and a night with your sister's best friend - easy...all in fun, boys) and it would also be structurally sound enough to take them. this advice proved to be true and i subsequently re-strung all my guitars and everything else in sight with "the medium gauge". go for it. you won't be sorry! nudge, nudge, chop, chop.
