TommyK
If you've ever seen The Andy Griffith Show with the 'Darling Family', you've seen an early iteration of 'The Dillards'. Doug was the banjoist. He and his comrades is part of the reason I play the guit tar and love Bluegrass. You might say Doug and his band introduced me to the genre with which I have had a life long love affair. He will be missed.
Daryl M
Sad news. I worked with Doug at some festivals in the past. Nice fellow.
larryp58
I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to him a couple of years ago at a bluegrass festival. He was easily approachable and was very easy to talk to. Very nice, humble man. Felt like talking to a family friend! A great talent, too. He was happy to talk about the days on the Andy Griffith Show, and loved telling stories about music. A great loss.
BigKahune
. I love The Dillards. They actually had a lot of influence on the folk/country rock groups of the 60s and 70s. Doug was a killer banjo player. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJTW2ruur-I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqg-Eo0Quto

TommyK
Thanks BK. Haven't heard that one in a long time. I sing it every chance I get. I am surprised by the number of people who've never heard of it.... and they are my age.
