Put together a Pedal Board Today

I also had a small gizmo that may have been made by EHX that was smaller than a cell phone, but much thicker.

You plugged it right into the amp, and it had an on/off black slider switch and a volume control, and it was housed in a silver metal box.

Plug your guitar into it, hit the switch, and the Fender amp came alive with what seemed about double the volume.

I gave that away with the amp when I sold it when my X and I had our first baby back in '82.

sounds like you had a LPB-. The new versions are slightly different and are made into a pedal rather than the old one's which plugged in directly

Yup the LPB-1 was the first effect EHX put out. You can still find the original ones for really cheap too. They sold a lot of them because they were cheap to produce so they were pretty affordable and they sounded great.

Is your SG some kind of custom shop model or the regular 61 reissue? The grain of the wood looks a lot nicer than normal. You're a really good photographer too.

My LPB-1 looked like the one on the far left in the pic above.

My '61 RI is a 2012 that was made in March of this year, I absolutely dig it.

I just used an old Sony digital from a few years back set on auto setting :D

My sales guy when he saw my guitar last Saturday said it was one of the last ones I think made with one piece rosewood fretboard?

Seems they have gone now to a layered one?

He said to hang onto it, it was a good one.

He is also the guitar tech for Queensryche.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the layered fretboards. I doubt it has any effect on the sound or looks.. If nobody told us we probably wouldn't know the difference but I guess it's cool having the old fashioned construction anyways.

But yeah.. Definitely hang on to that SG!

I just simplified my board a bit after practice last night

Thanks! The cat pedal is an overdrive that I use all the time. It sounds really good. It's a smallsound/bigsound fvck overdrive (can't spell the f word or it will get censored). It's got a switch that makes your amp sound broken, but I really only use the regular overdrive

It doesn't surprise me that the brackets come with the board, my friend ain't exactly handy...then again he makes it up with musical talent.

They didn't originally come with the board, so if it's older, he might not have got them. He can still get them though (guessing there is a charge, not sure).

Yes, looks like a 73 to 74 Rams Heads one by this link.

EHX sure has come a long way, they have a ton of pedals out now.

Thanks, I knew when I was interested in getting back into playing again I wanted a '61 reissue since I liked playing my friends mid 60s SG back in the early 70s.

It blew away my '73 Les Paul Deluxe.

This new one will be a keeper that I will pass down to my sons one day, and any other guitars I pick up later.

I use to run that Big Muff into a 70s Fender Bandmaster with the Bandmaster cabinet that my dad and I put 2 12" speakers into.

I think we used Eminence back around '73 or '74 when I got the amp.

Pretty sure it was 50 watts, but no way was it as loud as this new Carvin I have, and I am only running it on the 7 watt setting right now.

Ah, the LPB-1! I was hanging out at a place that made "Milo" amplifiers (Dave West of West Amps owned/designed, this was his next venture after selling West Amps following the huge success caused by Grand Funk Railroad, check their live album cover). Dave's Sales Guy asks "what kind of amp do you have"? I think I was running the 45 watt West Avalon into two quad cabs at the time, unless I was still on my solid state "checkmate" practice amp). "Want to turn it into a Marshall"? Hadn't thought much about buying a Marshall yet, but I bought that cool little LPB-1. I later ended up trading it towards an MXR Phase 45, as by then I had sold the West cabs, bought a couple bass reflex Milo cabs, which were loaded with one 12 inch SRO each, and then sold the West head and bought a Marshall 100W Plexi... I later sold the two Milo's (pretty good for PA) and bought a Marshall slant 4/12 bottom, and shortly after bought a 50w Marshall Plexi and a "Big M" Marshall 4/12 bottom... Ah, good times. Thanks for the nostalgia kicker with the LPB-1!

Thanks for the nostalgia kicker with the LPB-1!

You are welcome.

It was pretty amazing such a small device would make an amp so loud.

I know for sure my Vox Thomas Organ Wa Wa is at my sisters, but not sure about that Big Muff.

The Wa Wa is probably ruined though if I left the battery in it since it has been there 15 years.

(Mods, if this would be better in the review section, please move it)

I had looked at the Trailer Trash ones, but man, they are super expensive, and I do not need something like that for just playing at home and maybe jamming with a few friends in the future.

I really like their green LED one, but it would be around $700 or more for them to build it and put in a Voodoo power supply like I installed on mine today.

Took my time to route the power wires, patch cables, and it turned out pretty nice.

Missing is a tuner that I have coming, and it will mount below the tape delay unit on the far right.

My unit, the Pedal Train 2 with soft case

Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus

Mogami Gold Instrument 01RR (10in) patch cables for the pedals

The Mogami's are a little expensive, but I am also running a 10' and 18' cables for the guitar, and a 6" for when I use an Audio Technica wireless guitar setup.

The Mogami cables are very quiet and top notch.

Running just one of these power supplies compared to several of the Wall Wart plugs for each pedal keeps noise to zero, and makes for a very clean setup.

You do have to remove the small sticky rubber feet from the bottoms of the pedals, they simply pluck off.

If you do not remove them, your Velcro will not work right as it would be below the surface height of the rubber feet.

I was thinking of going with a smaller board, but I am glad I went with this one, as there is really only room to add on a few more.

I could mount the Carvin V3Ms pedal controller to the board too if I wanted to.

Looks good mate

Most devices I've accidentally done that with turn out fine. With some, it's no more than a (really old [laugh] ) dead battery. Others have required a bit of cleanup, but most items have been salvageable. Hope so with that Wah, unless I'm mistaken that's a desireable pedal.

Thanks Dub and T Bone, hopefully it will be OK.

Thanks Fret.

Took off the rubber pad of the Peterson tuner and put Velcro on it, it is now mounted to the board.

Fired it all up, and I had zero sound from my Carvin amp.

Tried each pedal by themselves and they worked fine, then I started adding in one more at a time,

They all work now, not sure what the problem was, I even thought it may have been the new 10" Mogami patch cable, but it worked OK when I swapped it in using just two pedals.

Quite a bizarre sound having the Faux Tape Echo, Talking Machine, and the Ravish Sitar all going at the same time when I plucked a few strings testing out the new tuner :D
