Shari.Z
HI! i found this mandolin in my father's basement a few weeks ago. I was hoping maybe someone on here could help me identify it, like as to what year it was made, the style, type and worth. Thanks!
BobB
It looks like an early "A-4" model. Vintage dealers like www.gruhn.com or www.mandoweb.com have appraisal services available.
bobouz
It looks like an early "A-4" model. Vintage dealers like www.gruhn.com or www.mandoweb.com have appraisal services available. It's a Gibson A-4 from before 1922, due to the fact that there is no truss rod. There should be a 5-digit factory order number (FON) inside the body on the neck block. Google Joe Spann's book on early Gibson's, and you'll be able to identify the year based on the FON number. You can then get a ballpark value figure from the newest Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide. Btw, looks like a beauty!
