I am attempting to quite smoking. Consequently I can't think of anything else. While going through the ash tray looking for butts long enough to get my fix I started wondering about the rest of you and your smoking habits (or not).

I wouldn't go so far as to say smokers suck but I don't smoke. I started smoking both tobacco and weed at 14. I quit tobacco at 24 but started again about 10 years later. Then, at the age of 44 I quit tobacco for the last time. It was, without a doubt, the most difficult of the various things I've kicked.

I remember buying smokes in the PX for two-bits a pack! What are they now? 5 bucks?

I quit when I was 39. Cold turkey. No tobacco products for me.

The trick is: You won't quit because you know you need to. You have to not want to anymore.

If it helps:

I made it a pain in the *** to smoke for long enough that quitting was a relief. Changed to an oddball brand (Carlton Menthol 120's) Didn't stop and get a pack on the way home from work (with 3 cigs in the pack)- made me go back out or wait till in the morning. Never smoked in front of the kids... always smoked outdoors or in my bathroom holding the cig up next to the vent. Eventually, I needed the time I spent smoking for other, more important things. Put them down and never looked back.

I quit about 15 years ago after many years, I was able to quit fairly easily I guess my wife became very allergic to the smoke so it wasn't worth it to see her so miserable and smoking outside didn't help since if it was on me it would get her. I still smoke a cigar now and then which doesn't effect her the same way. I'm glad I quit though not only for the $$$ but also in todays world (AZ at least) it's kinda like prostitution we know it exists but not allowed to be visible in public.

Smoking is pretty bleh, but that's a personal thing. I have no disrespect for anyone who does it (nor am I one of those retards who yells at you from another car "HEY DUDE THAT CANCER STICK IS GONNA ****ING KILL YOU, MORON!!!"). I'm pretty sure you'll be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't know the health concerns, so why the hell should it be my business to tell them what they can or cannot do. I'll respect your decision to smoke, and I expect you to respect that I don't want smoke blown in my face.

However, chicks who smoke = nasty.

Smoking was only ever truely cool when Clint Eastwood did it.

Well done to those who have quit though! I've heard it is a *****!

Drinkin' is more of my thing, anyway...

luckily, I've never had an addicting type personality. I can have one here or there, but never smoked on a regular basis. Growing up, many of my friends started smoking I guess to be cool. I never felt the need to do that. But sometimes when we would be partying I would bum one off a friend. I still occasionally do that to this day. Usually when we play a gig I'll have about 3 throughout the night. The bars in my area have all gone non-smoking now, so you have to step outside for one.

I didn't vote because, although I don't smoke, I have nothing against those who do (except those pipe smokers who smoke maple butternut rum flavored tobacco that smells so bad that I involuntarily stop breathing.)

I wouldn't say smokers suck either.

I think the only reason I did as a teen is to be cool like my guitar heros - Jimmy Page & Eric Clapton. It never became a habit with me so I didn't smoke long.

I used to smoke two cigarrete packages daily (which is 40 cigarretes a day... ) and that was when I didnt go out (sunday-wednesday)... I quit a while ago and now can't stand the smell of that smoke... even when I meet someone and that someone has had a cigarrete before...

People that smokes may not notice it (I didn't), but that stuff really stink (I'm talking about marlboro here... not any of that stuff you guys smoke to get high, as you would say)

Just kidding (about the pot or whatever it is called)... Peace.

I quit in Feb 2007 after 35 years of pack a day Camel non filters. I used the patch and followed their recommended strategy, slowly decreasing the patch strength. It took 10 weeks and I can't tell you that was the best way to quit... but that's the method I used.

Hardly a day goes by that I don't think about smoking but I think it's just the forbidden fruit aspect. Truth is, now I have no tolerance for smoke or smokers. That's not a social statement at all, I just can't tolerate the smell anymore! I'm not tempted by someone smoking near me, that's never been a problem, but if I have a conversation with someone who has just come in from an outside smoke I want to gag.

Socially I sympathize; I know what it's like to be constantly gauging when and wher I could have a smoke without breaking a law. It got to the point where I would seize ANY opportunity to smoke, whether I wanted a cigarette or not because I never knew when I could fire one up again.

Gibson had a LOT to do with me quitting smoking! I went to the 2007 Homecoming in Bozeman and I knew I wouldn't make it because one leg of the flight was 4+ hours and the flight(s) were about 13 hours total with wait time between flights. I knew there was NO way I would make it that long so a few months prior I said WTF.... I woke up one morning and said "Today's the day!"

I smoke but very little... I quit completely a couple of times for several years each time. Now I may have a few ciggs while I'm at work but if I buy a pack it lasts a week or more... I guess I should just stop all together again.... Just that working in a club its hard not to have a smoke now and then. Specially here in Spain when anyone lights up they always offer the people around them a smoke as well.....

I smoked 2 packs a day up until Jan. 1st. '08. Illinois passed the "can't smoke in a bar" law, and that meant anywhere else and I said F em'. I am not standing out in the rain, cold, ect.

I quit cold turkey after 35 years, with a little help from Nicorette gum.

I bought my new ES-339 with the first money saved. I smoked a new guitar every year for 35 years.

How stupid was that?

Illinois is now billions of dollars in debt. Go figure.

Murph.
