ragman1108 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I have a buddy who has a 1981 Gibson "The V" ser.# 82721025 in tobacco sunburst. It is in very good ,original condition. Can anyone give me some info on its value? I will try to post some pics as soon as I can if needed.
guitfidle Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I have an '82 The "V" #81172024 with a cherry sunburst. I had it looked at several years ago, and the guy said it was the second rarest V Gibson ever made. Couldn't really value it accurately...
L5Larry Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 the guy said it was the second rarest V Gibson ever made. Rare does not equal valuable, as old does not equal collectable or vintage. The reality of the situation is that ANY guitar is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not a "blue book" value or George Gruhn appraisal. What someone is willing to pay for it is driven by "demand", and if there is no demand for your specific instrument, it doesn't matter how old or rare the instrument is, it will not fetch a large price.
Morten M Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 They go for around $2000 on Ebay with scratches and dings. The Vintage Price Guide says 1400 - 2000 for a mint.
