I know many security guards are cop wannabes but I think they're meant as a deterrent more than muscle. They're not exactly a mercenary force, paid to fight & die for their master. As an employee, no way in hell would I put my life on the line or risk any injury over a shoplifter, thief, or burglar. I wouldn't intervene for anything. I don't risk myself for 'stuff.' Let 'em take it. Especially when the boss is a mega-corporation ... theft is designed into the business model.
