" When they interviewed him at that time he commented that he had been sober 10 years."

Me thinks Joe was telling a little fib there because they put him in rehab right before that HFO concert to sober him up for the long tour that was to follow.

Yeah, he didn't clean up till' 1994 or something like that.

I read an article recently where he talked about coming back from being near the edge from the booze. It is good that he was able to beat the demons.

Sorry about bumping an old thread but I thought this was interesting. In the August issue of Vintage GuitarJoe Walsh is the cover article. The interview asked him when he made a serious run at sobriety and he responded with "three years ago". He followed up with the fact that he has now been married 3 1/2 years so I'm sure that is relevant.

He is going to be playing about an hour from here at a casino this Sunday and I am trying to talk my wife into going and seeing him. Hope to.

His current show is great fun and he's playing better than ever. Of course his ever present sense of humor is still there. Here is his encore.

I went to see Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band last Saturday at the Ryman, it was already a great show having Steve Lukather on guitar duties then Joe Walsh comes out to play Rocky Mountain Way with a scorching performance. He took it up a few notches!

I was surprised that he played slide with an EMG-equipped guitar, first time I ever see that, sounded incredible.

I remember as a teenager in downtown cleveland we had these " teen fair " shows. And I was in a band that tried out for the battle of the bands. They had 3 stages. They had booths with all local music stores showing off their eqipment.

Well any how. The James gang was playing there, and I think it was before they were recording????

Even then ya knew Joe Walsh had a special TONE about him. He was playing a les paul thru a marshall. This Had to be around 1966????

Just got back from Joe's concert last night and it was AWESOME! And he did the tribute to Levon Helm also. Really great concert.

The Guess Who opened for him and they were also very good. I have new found respect for their playing.

We didn't make up our mind whether to go or not until the last minute. It was right at 100 degrees here all day. By that time the reserved seating was, of course, all sold out. So as I'm driving there I'm thinking we are going to be a mile from the stage. Why am I doing this?

The concert was on reservation ground at the Winnebago Tribe casino. We pull in and are directed to parking clear the other side of the concert grounds from the casino building. We park and go up to the gate and the sign says "Ticketed Admission only." So we head back to the car and a tribal member goes by on his golf cart. A shuttle. I asked him where I could get tickets and he responds if I didn't by them online I need to go to the casino. I said "Oh c#$%! Can you take me over there?" He reaches in his pocket and hands me two reserved tickets and says "Here ya' go. Enjoy"! row P, about 15th row!? [thumbup] And it cooled down and there was a really nice breeze! Perfect night for a concert and great seats! =D>

Don't know how many of you saw Joe on one of the morning talk shows yesterday, maybe "Good Morning America" (US of course).

Interestingly, during that interview Joe claims 18 years of sobriety. [confused]

He's been sober since 1994....

They made him clean up for the Eagles reunion....

But, according to the recent Vintage Guitar article he stated he has been sober three years. I think I mentioned that above. There are just conflicting stories, mostly from Joe, on the length of his sobriety. I guess it really doesn't matter. It's his business.

Joe Walsh is one of the greatest! (IMO)

As a result of seeing him a few weeks ago I just have a completely new found respect for him. I know it's an understatement, but just an awesome guitarist. I wish I knew what song it, was but he did some just incredible instrumental. Typical Joe fashion at the end of it he says, "I guess I kinda was out there on that one!" [biggrin]

Meadows or Turn To Stone maybe. He used to do some long instrumental stuff in the middle of both them back then. But then, I'm assuming he's doing the old stuff.

I used to see the James Gang playing in a bar at Ohio State University before their first album came out. It used to cost $1.50 cover charge. After their album came out, the cover charge went up to $10.00. Joe was a great guitarist then as he is now.

I won tickets to his concert tonight in Vienna, VA. Have to pick up the tickets on the way to the concert...about a 2 hour drive for me to get the tickets and then to Wolf Trap for the concert...through Washington DC traffic. I'm a casual fan of his music, like him but don't love him. Wondering if it's worth the drive?

Read my post above (#34). For me it was over an hour drive. But not through traffic; it was mostly highway. But I would definitely do it again.

Definitely not. Send me the pick up info and I'll fly out from LA to DC then drive the short distance. Now that would be worth it I think.

I manned up and went to the concert. Survived DC traffic and enjoyed the show. He can still get it done. I even liked some of the new stuff that he played. Glad I went.
