Legend In the House!

Sweet! Is that the one that was just on ebay? It was the only one I've seen where the pickguard overlaps the rosette.

If so, you've saved me from a contentious argument with my wife, who caught me cruising guitar porn last night, and told me I didn't have room for any more guitars.

Thanks, I think. [unsure]

I have owned both 1940s and 1950s Gibsons on which the pickguard did overlap the rosette. Always figured maybe it was just one of those the guy who slapped it on had had a really long night kinda things.

Cool! Be interesting to hear what ya think of of the guitar after you get some time with it under your belt.

And I love Nipper sitting there in the background.

I've got my own version of Nipper, but his name is Spike. Like Nipper, he sits there patiently and doesn't speak. But Spike sits there with a big grin showing all his teeth, waiting for me to throw his ball rather than play some music. Clearly doesn't appreciate my talents.

(This reference may be lost on those unfamiliar with RCA.)

Congratulations on the Legend.

While I was trying a group of brand new Gibsons at an acoustic guitar shop last weekend, the salesman handed me a Legend J45. What a knockout Gibson!

Straight off the rack, it felt great to play and sounded older that it should have.....ready to go, in other words.

Enjoy!!

Congrats!!! From the pattern on the pickguard, it appears to be the one that just sold on eBay. You got it at a great price! Even though I already have a J-45 Legend, I am honestly jealous! I love mine so much that when I saw this one on eBay at that price, I REALLY wanted to buy it! I even talked to the wife about it. She, however, is pregnant and more level headed than I, so I ended up not bidding on it. I had even gone so far as to call a couple of luthiers to find out if it would be possible to change out the fretboard to make it look like a Southern Jumbo with split parallelogram inlays and neck binding, but they told me it was not at all feasible.

Anyway, congrats on getting a great guitar! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. I'm on a business trip right now and can't wait to get home to play it!

Thanks, everyone. This Legend was indeed recently on eBay. I've never bought a guitar that way, but the chance to get a Legend at such a good price was too good to pass up. The seller turned out to be really great, and corresponded with me several times between shipping and when I received it.

I strung it with fresh strings, and buffed out the aged finish. It looks, plays and sounds great. On first impression it has lots in common with the Fuller's J-35.

I'll post some comparison pics and give you more detailed in the next couple days.

That was a really good buy, and I almost went for it. I'll be interested to hear what you think of the neck, as the description on the Gibson website (plus some comments here and there) implies it is really, really big, and that scared me just a little. At the same time, I was wondering if the neck might be more like my 1947 L-7 or my '59 ES 335, both of which are fairly big but very playable.

For the record, I buffed out the VOS finish on my L-OO Legend, as well. Maybe Gibson should offer the Legends in a gloss finish for those of us who prefer to "age" our own guitars by playing them for years... [biggrin]

Congrats!
