FS Recording King RNJ-25 w/case + Uprades

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The RNJ-25 is a recreation of Gibson's classic Nick Lucas model. It's American-designed and Chinese-manufactured to strict US standards. Fit and finish are quite good, and IMO, Recording King has out-done Gibson itself, in terms of capturing the vintage Gibson look in its current line of instruments. The RNJ-25 has...Solid Sitka spruce topSolid flame maple back and sidesScalloped braces24-3/4" scaleDovetail neck jointSlim, C-shaped mahogany neckRosewood bridge and fingerboard20 frets (14 frets to the body)1-3/4" nut widthFancy headstock and fingerboard inlaysHand-rubbed nitrocellulose lacquer finish

Nick Lucas bodies are shaped similarly to the Gibson L-00 (L-0, L-1, etc.), but significantly deeper (4-1/2"). The combination of maple back and sides plus a deep body works beautifully. Response is quick, notes are clear and well balanced, treble to bass. And there's plenty of volume. This guitar is in excellent condition overall. It plays really well and sounds great, too.

This particular guitar has over $100 worth of upgrades. The stock covered tuners have been replaced with (Stew-Mac's Golden Age Restoration Tuners)( with engraved base plates), which look really nice and work as well as they look. The stock pickguard (which was pretty garish, IMO) has been replaced with a much more attractive (Greven firestripe pickguard ) . Finally, the stock setup was adjusted, including nut slots of proper depth and saddle adjusted to the correct height (with loads of room for further adjustments). It also comes with a very nice Guardian case that's specially designed for the RNJ-25, since its body is unusually deep. The case has an arched top, six latches, very nice padding, and a good-sized accessory box.

A freind of mine owns one of those (as well as the 13 fret model with the laminated rosewood body) and it really is alot of guitar for the bucks. Possibly the best "budget" Lucas-style guitar out there.

I would say though it is more an interpretation than a recreation. Top wood and neck profile are different from the originals, squared off braces rather than v shaped and so on.
