Stuart049
Hey everyone, I was hoping to get some info on the Gibson A-5 Mandolin. I've not owned a Mandolin before but I've been playing guitar for 11 years and have been thinking about getting one. I'm a big Mumford & Sons fan and I really like the Mandolin that Marcus uses in the picture below . . . From what I understand its a Gibson A-5 but the one on the Gibson site doesn't have a pick guard on, and I would like it to. Can It be put on as an option extra? or Is this something that Marcus has custom done himself? Also its obviously not electric but Marcus is using some kind of mic to capture the sound, does anyone know exactly what this is? Thanks
Stuart049
Update: Microphone could be something like a Rode NT5 on a sticky mount . . http://www.rodemic.com/mics/nt5-s
BobB
www.allparts.com and www.stewmac.com have pickguards and piezo bridges for mandolins.
cunningham26
You're going to buy a $3500 mandolin you dont know how to play because marcus mumford plays one? What if you don't like it? you can get a solid player to learn on for >$500. If you want something of great quality, check out The Loar's selection In the end, it's up to you to play it well. ***edit: saw that this post is from june...hard to tell when it's just a few down in this quiet area of the forum!**
