mageau
Hi my dad has this guitar that hes had for like around 25 years. It has all of the charcteristics of a les paul model, but with no gibson logo or serial number. What is it?
Ian Martin
Pics would help, kinda to tell without some. I'm not sure when they started stamping the serial numbers into the wood (as opposed to printing them), but if I had to guess I'd say probably f4k3z0rzzz. modoc_333
i've seen tons of those. they are fake.... usually make out of plywood. you can see it if you take one of the covers off of the back.
Thundergod
Or you can cut it in two with a chainsaw (you can do with a router or a normal hand saw, but, a chainsaw or a bonesaw are going to be a lot more fun!). The down side of this is if it was real, there's no way to go back.
retrosurfer1959
Is that even technically a fake if it doesn't even have a logo but just looks like a LP shape??? I'd say not a fake just a lp copy from when everyone made them. originally it wasn't the LP shape it was just guitar shaped.
SRV-Zeppelin
Definitely not a Gibson... but retro makes a good point. It good just be a cheap copy without a logo, not necessarily a fake Gibson.
Dynadude
There used to be lots of Asian builders that would leave the headstock plain, and the different retailers would stick on whatever logo they wanted. The logo from your guitar was probably lost, or possibly removed by a previous owner who was not so proud of the logo. Global, was famous for their stick on logos, and they did resemble a LP. Look up a few on the web to see if they match up.
lpdeluxe
Back in the '70s there were LP copies -- not fakes -- everywhere. The technology is pretty well understood by builders, after all.
Bluemoon
Just because it is not a Gibson, doesn't mean it isn't a great guitar or that is has not value.. The fact that your dad kept it for 25 years means it probably was and still is a great player. Enjoy it. Also, post some pics. Would love to see it.
