ian c Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 i need words of wisdom from experienced gibson guys please !! my first post , so dont be too brutal :) i'm looking at buying a les paul for my next guitar . it will get gently played , but just displayed most of the time . hence value , and depreciation are the key points in my purchase (flames expected) i have found a guy selling part of his collection , and he has 3 lespauls i'm interested in .... all are in mint condition , as good as new . so price compared to buying a new one is important . bigger saving = better buy !! LesPaul Classic 1960 (Black) 03 Les Paul Deluxe (Wine Red) 04 Les Paul 56 Gold Top CS 04 which would you buy ?? ( if any )
Bluemoon Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 What color is you wall that you will be displaying it on? Perhaps that should guide your purchase. I think I would go for the gold top. By the way, how do you know that these three guitars are legit?

rmngretsch14 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 assuming they are legit--go for the gold, plus its a '56 so it will have p-90s which just have the greatest tone in my opinion
djroge1 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 legit is the big issue because those seem like inexpensive prices for each of those guitars. Are they Gibsons or Epiphones? Were they made in America or China?
Ian Martin Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 *unsheathes sword* There is only room for one Ian on this forum. BE GONE!!!
Thundergod Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 First, ask for pictures and post them here... or PM them to any of the guys... Then when you are sure they are real, go with the goldtop.
xchrisbobisx Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 gee 1650 for a goldtop, gimme this guys email if you end up getting the deluxe (which i highly recommend +:-@/ )
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 i need words of wisdom from experienced gibson guys please !! my first post ' date=' so dont be too brutal [/quote'] My 2 cents: Find out if the guitars are real (even if the goldtop is a RI, it's still really cheap) and if they are, get the goldtop. Then change your name on the forums so Ian doesn't beat you with a toaster.
ask28 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 The most important factor is making sure the color doesn't clash with the drapes. It breaks my heart that these music machines would end up as mere ornaments.
stymye Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 hate to be a downer but none of those guitars are from the 1956-60 era. if that were the case ,I have a 1959 flametop that I will cut a great deal on
rmngretsch14 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 So who is selling these again, maybe an email or something?
FennRx Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 i would buy the goldtop in a heartbeat. and the deluxe aint bad either. private message me with the seller's info. i will buy whichever you dont want.

Get the Goldtop, can't go wrong with reissues especially if they come equipped with P-90s.
Thundergod Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 That goldtop is a real beauty... get her while you can...

(my guitars sound better when they are "on display")
Ian Martin Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 The R6 is a no brainer. It's a BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING guitar at a DIRT CHEAP price. Unless you are absolutely opposed to it, you'd be a complete moron not to get it. Seriously. ...but I'm still gonna have to fight you because you're named Ian.
