Binding on a Les Paul...

I just had a brilliant idea. I remembered that some guitar makers used to paint f-holes and binding on their guitars, even Gibson painted f-holes and pinstriping on the original EB-1 bass.

A careful masking job and some good enamel or lacquer paint would do the trick.

The hard part about "adding" binding to the body is that it needs to be scraped flush to the surface of the adjacent wood - and that means you'd be damaging the finish unless you planned on refinishing the guitar. As for the neck, I don't think you could get in there to route a channel along the edge of the neck adjacent to the top without damaging the top along with it.
