Gibson Hummingbird Pick Guard Vent

Just another point.

As we know here, the reason the Genuine replacement guards are so expensive is to help combat copies/ripoff Gibson guitars.

I think that makes sense... it does amaze me the amount of people on here, who complain about the price of their guitars. Why feckin buy it if you think it's over priced ?

I am a very poor man..I don't giv a toss..its a lifestyle decision I have made. I bought a brand new HB TV in Europe 6 months ago. Am I feeling badly done by. NO

If you gonna complain about price of things..don't buy em.. the price may change. but it seems plenty of ppl are willing to pay the price.

BTW I didn't mind your vent IWTL... but to claim it is cheap workman ship is just wrong.

I think a wearing pickguard should just be part of the Gibson specs on the website, as a part of the Gibons features ..... 'guraranteed to sound brilliant over time, with a growing tonal bouquet, and a perfectly wearing pickguard for added mojo'

You know, just like good wines market themselves ...

I never said it was cheap workmanship on the guitar, maybe the pick guard yes but, I love the guitar. again, i said for the price you pay things like this should not happen. I never complained of the price of the guitar, I can't because I have two gibsons. Do I think they should be that high in price....no, but thats a whole different topic.

Errrm..

how many times can you contradict yourself in one sentence?

I was not particularly aiming the price comments at your self IWTL.. but your claim of cheap... which again is just not correct. I will now leave this thread alone.

lol, ok thats called not thinking befoe you write your thoughts down....thats my fault. The best way I can put it is this, It would be my wish that gibson could have come up with a better plan on the pickguards somehow. Maybe make a hummingbird where the design does not fade and make an actual hummingbird with a plain guard for those who dont like the design. as you can tell im one of those guys who enjoys the design and just wished it would not fade as quickly as it does. I realize it will eventually happen, especially when you play almost 2 hrs a day, i get that but, it is just my wishful thinking that maybe they should have stuck with the idea of the guards from the 60's or 70's. I see hummingbirds from that time period and im amazed that the guards are still in great shape after all these years and the ones from today wear out so quickly.

Yes. Trolls live under bridges and I don't understand the apologist reference either. But, since the topic of worn off pickguard paint is, well ...Worn! I would like to be the first to welcome Guitarlight to our forum!!!!

I am sorry you had a bad experience with your SJ200. As I've observed - the paint is sometimes a little lighter or thinner in places on new guitars hanging in shops. Possibly the paint was like this and you didn't notice until you had your $3,800 purchase at home? So it might not have been an egregious quality issue - not to apologize for Gibson of course, since we love it when some one joins our forum and on that same day brings forward such a great example of what Guth so eloquently described as 'crap'.

Guitarlight, I am sure since your paint wore off in 2 months ( "same problem as Iwalktheline's") you were able to return it under warranty? I am not suggesting a good return policy should take the place of poor workmanship. We all know and take comfort in the fact that in the long term, a company will go out of business if they employ that formula!

So - thanks Iwalktheline for starting up a really great thread. Since you knew we were powerless to fix your problem (as we were last time) and that this topic has been discussed ad nauseum, and you described it yourself as a Rant - I hope you achieved your objective us having some folks here feel your pain.

Thank you for your understanding comment. At least some one is civil in here.

Thanks for the kind words.

Any time. It was my pleasure.

P.S. Just curious, but why bother editing your original post after people have quoted the part you're trying to hide?

Because I've heard from several other guitar rooms, like Martin and Taylor rooms, that the Gibson room is filled with nasty people and it bans you if you dare say anything negative about a Gibson.I don't want to be banned like all the others.

Oh, I wouldn't believe everything you hear from other forums. Besides, these guitars boards go through cycles & there are always a few who want to control a lot of the action. I used to participate frequently on the AGF back around 2001, and later on the Martin board. Same stuff happens everywhere from time to time. This place has a lot of diversity as you can hop over to electrics, discuss spendy Gibsons or cheapo Epis, and much more. For a site being run by a manufacturer, it's really quite accommodating, imho.

I suspect the members of those other forums were preying on your naivety, the rules for this forum are clearly obtainable, and known to all, (if they choose to read them).

No where is there any chance of getting kicked out due to saying something negative about Gibson.

My personal opinion is that works of art have flaws, (Paintings), and reproduced images don't, (Photographs).

So if you want "perfect", go for the photograph, if you want 'art" go for the oil painting.

they do this. the guard on the standard won't fade. If you want the historically correct appointments, they make the TV.

. , , , and make an actual hummingbird with a plain guard for those who dont like the design.

Kalamazoo introduced that idea exactly 50 years ago and called it the Southern Jumbo (now with square shoulders as they were hip).

In the same breath they released a sq. sh. natural/blonde version, which continued the name Country and Western or SJN - N for natural.

Then many decades further the Sheryl Crow came along. It was based on a 1962 or 64 C&W natural she owned and loved, but rare versions is seen in sunburst. These relatively contemporary models are called Country and Westerns also.

So 1 + 2+ 3 gives 6, but 6 - 3 - 2 doesn't count 1. That's Gibson, , , , as the saying goes.

I posted the seldom burst 'modern' one here a long time back and can't remember if it had the 25,5 scale.
