Grammers are seen all the time on RFD-TV reruns of the Wilburn Bros. I think being based in Nashville & all Billy supplied many guitars for national exposure. Seems like Tommy Hunter played one in the late 60s on his Canadian TV show also. I always dug them just because of the pickguard.

NIce video' date=' Cunk. I also thought he sounded like Neil Young crossed with a bit of David Crosby. Now I want one of those slot head Merle Haggard models!! Ar-r-r-r-g-g-g-h-h-h!![/quote']

the tone in that video i posted makes me weak. almost enough to make me forget the other 10 or so guitars i'm lusting after right now (is it obvious yet why i have an ex wife?).

I'm very familiar with Grammers and have played several over the years, but never actually owned one. They are an acquired taste, and have been an underground favorite of many in the Nashville country circles for decades, ever since Johnny Cash appeared with a custom made beauty on his weekly TV show way back when. To many, they have a well-deserved reputation right up there with Gibson, Martin, Gretsch, etc. The first one I ever saw was when Little Jimmy Dickens played one at the Grand Ole Opry. His had a rhinsetone pickguard to match his Nudie suit. Oddly enough, I am a big Merle Haggard fan, and I can't recall ever seeing him play one...

I have seen and played Grammers-the ones I have played are just beautiful to look at.They were gorgeous Brazillian with a great looking large pick guards but had lousy actions and tone and sounded just bad. The company seemingly didn't know how to build a good guitar and therefore only lasted a relatively short time. However, this didn't stop some idiot fan of Johnny Cash from paying $135,000 for his in lieu of grabbing one of his Martins for a heck of a lot less at the auction of his stuff.

Anyone can ask anything they want for anything ie the Grammer for 19 thou.

Most offerings I have seen on these guitars are at most $2,000

All else aside-they have a great look

Back in the early 70s I found used a Purple burst, Grammer Dred at a local shop. It was the strangest looking guitar ever, with that creepy pickguard and horned headstock, plus someone had carved a silver dollar size X, on the top with a knife???

But it sounded great.

I have always regreted not buying it, as it was a deal.

I bought a slightly used 73, Norlin era, J45 instead, and still play it a lot.

I remember the late country singer-songwriter Eddy Rabbit played one, as did a lot of other big name stars, up thru the 80s

Dale.

africanexoticwoodgrammer006-1.jpgafricanexoticwoodgrammer027.jpg Some Grammer guitars were inferior as far as tone , I have owned over 30 in the last 10 years , Most upgraded with the new bone nut , bridge saddle and fret dress are phenomenal players , but not all , as in the same case with all makes of guitars, I also have my "never sell" A worn ,ugly old Mahogany with Adirondack spruce top that has a tone to die for.Greg.
