Gibson Dark Fire- The iGuitar

Is it just me or does anyone else think that guitars are starting to get too high tech? Soon these iGuitars will come with over 500 techno beats programmed into the motherboard. I wont be surprised if I see a USB port instead of a amp jack in the next 3 years. The Dark Fire claims to be able to produce any tone and pitch imaginable, so it can be programed to sound like a acoustic, or even a Stratocaster? :-s

There have been other things in the past that claim to be the ace of all trades. I feel the same about the Dark Fire. Its too complicated for its own good, Why do people buy the Les Paul? For its famous heavy thick sound, Where would the variety be if everyone played on the same guitar but with different pitches and sounds. (I guess from a financial perspective, its quite favourable to think everyone in the world plays on the same guitar).

However I am a sucker for blinking LED lights, so these trinkets might intrigue me. gibson_mck.thumbnail.jpg

Well, I think it will be useful to some and not to others. I work with computers for a living but I'm a total technophobe when it comes to my guitar gear. However, I can see some applications where the Dark Fire would be great and I'll bet there'll be people who come up with some very creative uses for it that were never intended by it's designers; it's just a matter of messing with the thing and seeing what can be done with it that is out of the box.

I'm also a "technophobe" and work in IT. I think it is good to have new technology and more options to work with. But I don't feel I have to sell my other guitars. I feel that I'm expanding my territory/my tools. I already have a Robot LP, VG Stratocaster etc. So welcome to the family Dark Fire!!!

I think that a good mucisian is not only playing the song. He/She is also doing experiments in music - trying sounds, tecnologies... it's never ending path.

i love simplicity. the robot guitar freaked me out and this dark fire thing has me sh+ting bricks over the future of the instrument. i knew it'd happen, they're making it to where work, patience, and skill mean nada. guitar hero got people thinking that the guitar wasn't an instrument, but some image to be "cool"

DAMN POSERS![-X

Well, you have to have playing skills with the Dark Fire, that's for sure. That Dark Fire's new technology is only for sound and tuning. I'm categorizing Dark Fire in the same box as a Les Paul's guitar project, Sun Studio Tape Echo etc.

But I don't like Guitar Hero either +:-@
