DanW Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I bought an Angus Young Sig. Series Pickup off eBay for my SG. It arrived today and I have a question: How can you tell the pickup in an Angus Sig. Series? Do they have any special markings on the back? Mine just has "Gibson USA" on the back. The package was opened and I just want to make sure I got what I paid for. Any help will be most appreciated! Thanks Dan
Tim Plains Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Is there anything else on it, like a number of some sort? Your best bet would be to contact Gibson customer service and ask them. If there is a number on the pickup, tell them what it is.
DanW Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 R9, There is nothing on it that I can find other than "Gibson USA". Thanks Dan
Dynadude Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Find out the electronic specs on the Angus version, and see if yours matches. That's not a fool proof test, but if the pick up you have is way off, you know you've been had. Edit~ I did find one reference that the resistance is 9.4 kohms, but that was from an Ebay seller offering a four pole version. The version installed from the factory is a two pole, and I'm not sure they would be the same.
DanW Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 Dynadude, Thank you very much! I checked it and it is 9.43 kohms, so I am feeling better about it. Thanks Again! Dan
Dynadude Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 You're welcome Dan. Glad I could help. Let us know how it sounds when you get it installed.
scozz Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I'm not sure why this pickup is a Angus Young model. I've read Angus Young being quoted as saying, he just leaves his SGs stock from the factory, including the pickups. So wouldn't his SG Standards have the plain old 490r/498t, lol.

[/quote'] he usually plays 60's and 70's SGs, I'm pretty sure Gibson didn't make 490/498 until much later
Ian Martin Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 The Angus pickup is just a glorified '57, which is what he uses in his guitars.

[/quote'] I have read that he keeps them stock, but then I have read interviews where he says There was a guy in the UK that know how he liked the pickups. I am guessing he has had some of them custom wound, but His SG that he used when the band first started had T-tops in it. I am guessing a lot of the stuff the band/he uses is modified a lot.
