2006 68 Custom Authentic Les Paul Custom binding and other questions

Hi I just got the above 68 Custom serial number 061128 used but barely played, off Ebay in the UK.

It is a great sounding and playing guitar but I have a few observations and questions.

As I recall the earliest ( back in 01 or 02?) 68CAs had Burstbucker 2 & 3s but the more recent ones are specced with 57 classics mine definitely appears untouched and has a BurstBucker 1 & 2 set! Did the shop run out of aged cover 57s that day and fit an R7/8/9/0 set instead? I prefer BBs to 57s so I'm happy about that but I was a little surprised that it wasn't fitted with bumblebee caps like my '03 R7 ( I know original 68s didn't have them but the sprague Black Beauties they they did have are supposed to be virtually the same) should it have had them? There is no trace on the website of this model anymore so I can't check the specification myself.

I guess the serial number makes it quite an early 2006 build so when in 2006 did VOS start? My certificate says "68 Custom Authentic" not VOS though the seller described it as a VOS it doesn't really matter to me which my guitar is I'm just curious. Would it have been plekked if it was not VOS?

The only bad thing about my guitar is that where the binding meets the black body everywhere except around the front there is a pinky red line. In fact on the back the entire inner white line of the binding is pink! I recall reading something about the red pore filler for the mahogany sometimes bleeds into the binding is this true? It would explain why the front is unaffected being maple. Is there anything that that I can do about it? It's the only thing that slightly spoils my enjoyment at acquiring this otherwise excellent guitar. I even love the smell of it!

Lots of questions so thanks in advance for your shared knowledge,

Simon
