El Giablo
The guitar in question, is an authentic ES-165. Serial # 91472359 But, it was custom ordered with dual pick-ups. Did Gibson make a ES-165, that was not a Herb Ellis? If so, what are the exact specs for the 165? (woods) Thanks, El G
El Giablo
Oh well, I missed it. It sold today. El G
texasdw
My understanding is that the ES165 is the same guitar as the ES175 except that the 165 has the single floating pup. If it has two mounted pups then it's a 175. I don't know for sure though.
El Giablo
I just spoke to the owner. The sale did not go through. It is a ES-165 Custom. Hard to judge the value. El G
BobB
If you email pictures to service@gibson.com we should be able to authenticate it for you. This may have been a custom ordered instrument if it turns out to be real.
Jabberwocky
It is not a custom order. The double pickup version is known as the ES-165 PLUS: http://www.guitar.com.au/guitars/electric/gibson/HerbEllisES-165plus.html . There was one for sale on ebay in Light Burst for under $2350.00 in 2011. I don't know if it actually sold for that price. The ES-165 PLUS comes with two f-holes plugs and twin Classic 57 pups. Thanks, but this guitar was built before the ES-165 Plus. The owner claims that the sticker says, "ES-165 Custom." The headstock does not say "Herb Ellis", or have a crown. I wasted yesterday, researching this guitar. El G

El G El G, unless it is going for a really good price (<USD1900), I cannot see the attraction of it. Why fret over it? Just get yourself an ES-175 or an ES-175 1959 RI VOS

I have invested too much energy, as it is. Besides, there is a L5 Signature on ebay. El G
