deepblue Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 A while ago there was a post asking what made us decide to play a Les Paul. This was it for me. I opened up the booklet that came with Kiss Alive and when I saw the picture of Ace Frehley with his Lester in front of that wall of Marshalls... It all became very clear!......Ace is soooo cool!
rocketman Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 This is what did for me: Alex Lifeson's Les Paul.

Ace was the one who started it for me too. There was another photo though, I can't find it now, but it had him playing and the makeup was all starting to run. That was the photo I always liked.
AXE® Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 It's okay oilbutt. A lot of people like Mr Stinky... Even I do... He rocks and there is none higher... Slash is Godly... I'm going to go throw up now...

T50 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 this was what made me go out and get a custom:-"
Tim Plains Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Just seeing a silverburst Custom was enough for me. No famous musician required...
surfpup Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I had pictures of Page and Ace all over my walls well before I actually started playing the guitar, but I'm gonna tweak the topic slightly to movie (or video for you youngsters I guess) that started it all because for me it definitely began with The Song Remains the Same. As I remember it... 8th grade - 13 years old - drunk - midnight movie with real girls! And actually seeing what Page was doing on stage with that LP was a revelation - life was never the same for me!
bullet22 Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 That's Les Paul and Mary Ford. Wow, now she could sing....! That was a very special partnership.
pippy Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 This one And it sounds like this... Hearing Koss playing "The Hunter" on 'Free Live!' and seeing footage of same from the Isle of Wight gig on the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' with him and his LP. Still gives me a tingle.
Bluesburst Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 You know what I hate right now is KISS was the stuff back then' date=' even from the reunion tours they were so cool (I saw 3 of them and 2 original shows in the 70's). But I really think they are doing fans a dis-service with the new members of the band painted up like Ace and Peter. At least when they had fill in guitar and drums in the 90's they either used different makeup or no makeup. This guy pretending to be Ace while is a good guitar player I think its a sham that Paul and Gene are letting them use the same makeup. [/quote'] Yeah, I used to think the same as a long standing KISS fan but... I recall an interview with Gene Simmons a while back when he said he could see the day he and Paul would be replaced also. Remember, Gene is a MASSIVE comic book fan, it struck me KISS may end up being like the Phantom. While it may not be their kids that take over but it is sort of a cool concept. Gene has long said that KISS is bigger than he and Paul. I saw them March this year, a few rows from teh front and they were awesome. My first KISS concert was in 1980 with many others in between, they've still got it. They did not look like old men trying to regain their youth. But now I just ramble..
